LONG POST / APPRECIATION POST

Today I had a very special visitor working alongside me in the workshop.

From a very young age, my Pop was always repairing furniture and building beautiful pieces for people throughout the local community and surrounds. After many years teaching carpentry and joinery at school, it’s fair to say he knows a trick or two about the craft.

Over the weekend, I reached out and asked if he’d be interested in helping me out with a few small jobs around the workshop. Truthfully, it wasn’t really about the work. It was more about giving him something to do, sharing a coffee together, and enjoying each other’s company.

Since starting Made By Mason, I’d never really asked Pop for help before. He’s always kept his distance in a way, but quietly watched from afar, always taking an interest in what I was building and creating.

Within 24 hours he had locked in a time and said, “I’ll be there tomorrow at 1pm.” Sure enough, 1pm rolled around, in strolled pop with his “Made by Mason” jumper and he was straight into it.

He is a truly terrific man. Kind, caring, humble, and full of wisdom. The sort of person who is always there with support, advice, or encouragement when you need it. I feel incredibly proud to call him my grandfather.

Truthfully, Pop is one of the biggest reasons this business even exists. He played such a huge part in the early days of me falling in love with timber, woodworking, and furniture making.

Although his best days on the tools may be behind him, nothing made me happier than sharing these moments today with one of my best mates.
