🦉 A beautiful restoration is all about knowing what to preserve, what to enhance and where to add a little colour. 🤎
And this remarkable antique oak sideboard, beautifully transformed by ᴜᴘᴄʏᴄʟᴇᴅ ꜰᴜʀɴɪᴛᴜʀᴇ ʙʏ ᴇᴍᴍᴀ • ᴘᴀɪɴᴛᴇᴅ ꜰᴜʀɴɪᴛᴜʀᴇ • ᴅɪʏ in Ballarat, Victoria, is a wonderful example.
Emma originally had a different vision for the piece, but as the restoration unfolded, the magnificent oak grain inspired a new direction.
The heavy yellow tones have been replaced with a beautifully balanced, warm walnut finish, achieved using Fiddes Australia Hardwax Oil Tinted Walnut, followed by two coats of Hardwax Oil Silk.
The ornate decorative trims were carefully removed to allow the striking grain to shine, while the original hardware was restored to its beautiful brass finish.
And inside? A delightful little surprise. 🌿
The interiors have been refreshed in Wise Owl Paint’s Overland Green, complemented by gorgeous botanical drawer linings and beeswaxed drawer sides for effortless opening and closing.
It’s those thoughtful details, both seen and unseen, that make a restoration truly special.
What I particularly love about this piece is the balance Emma has achieved. The warmth of the natural timber, the richness of the painted interiors and the character of the original brass hardware all work beautifully together.
The result is a timeless statement piece that feels equally at home in a contemporary interior or a traditional setting.
