A loft should add possibilities to your home, not take space away from the room below.

That’s exactly what the Bcompact Custom Folding Stair is designed to help with.

When it’s not needed, it folds sideways against the wall, helping free up valuable floor space for everyday living. When open, it provides comfortable access to a loft, mezzanine or upper level.

Each Custom Stair is made to suit the height of your space, with two width options to choose from, 50° - 60° angles, engineered bamboo, patented bi-folding handrail and a choice of finishes.

If you’re planning a loft conversion, creating a mezzanine or looking for a more comfortable alternative to a traditional loft ladder, our latest article explores how folding access can help create a more open, considered interior.

Think attic access has to mean another traditional pull-down attic ladder?
It doesn’t.

This Sydney home had an existing pull-down ladder sitting in a very narrow hallway. When open, it completely dominated the space.

The owners wanted something better so we designed and installed a fully customised Bcompact Folding Stair, finished in white to work with the existing interior.

The difference isn’t only in the access.

Look at what happens to the hallway when the Stair is folded away. The structure sits flat against the wall, the white finish visually recedes into the space, and the hallway feels open and light again.

And that’s really the point: attic access doesn’t have to be one-size-fits-all.

Depending on your space, Bcompact offers everything from our ready-made Prefab Folding Ladder, through to Custom Folding Ladders and Customised Folding Stairs like this one.

“We decided to get a Bcompact custom staircase to access our attic. We could not be happier with the outcome.”
Thank you Luis for the wonderful review and for trusting us with your home.

Sometimes the best space-saving design is the one that almost disappears when you’re not using it.

This Custom Bcompact Folding Stair was finished in white to blend into the hallway, giving the owners comfortable access to the level above without permanently taking over the space below.

Open when you need it. Folded neatly against the wall when you don’t.

A good reminder that attic and loft access doesn’t have to look or feel like a traditional pull-down ladder.

One of the questions we hear often is: “Is it heavy to open?”

This is exactly why we like showing the Fold in action.

Bcompact Folding Stairs and Ladders are spring-assisted and individually tested and calibrated in-house for smooth, controlled operation.

Here, Zev opens this Custom Folding Stair with one hand. It unfolds slowly and gently, then a simple final push brings it into position.

No sudden drop. No wrestling with a heavy staircase.

This particular Stair was finished in white to blend into the surrounding interior, and although the renovation was still underway when these photos were taken, you can already see how neatly it folds back against the wall when not in use.

Substantial access when you need it. Minimal impact on the space when you don’t.

Think a traditional pull-down attic ladder is your only option?

It isn’t.

This narrow hallway originally had a conventional attic ladder that completely took over the space whenever it was open.

The owners wanted better access to the attic without losing the character, lightness and usable space of the hallway below.

The solution was a fully customised 55° Bcompact Folding Stair, finished in white to blend into the existing interior.

Open, it provides comfortable stair access.

Folded, it sits back against the wall and the hallway feels open again.

Still living with a pull-down attic ladder that takes over the space every time you use it?

There are more options than you might think.

This garage originally had a traditional attic ladder. The owners wanted better access to the space above, without permanently sacrificing the valuable floor area below.

The solution: a Bcompact Custom Folding Stair.

Open when you need it. Folded back against the wall when you don’t.

Receiving feedback like this afterwards makes the transformation even better:

A very familiar access problem - especially in garages.

The existing attic ladder provided access, but Bashir wanted something that felt more substantial, comfortable and considered, without giving up the floor space below.

The solution was a Bcompact Custom Folding Stair.

Open, it provides proper stair access to the space above. Folded, it sits back against the wall and gives the garage space back.

Receiving feedback like this afterwards makes the whole project even better:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“The entire process from start to finish was seamless. The things I worried about were already sorted and the promise always kept on delivery times.”

Thank you Bashir for the wonderful review and for sharing the finished result with us.

Today is World Bamboo Day 🌿

This year feels particularly significant for us at Bcompact.

Bamboo has been central to the development of the Bcompact Fold for many years, and today Zev is in Sydney representing Bcompact at the Bamboo Society of Australia’s World Bamboo Day event.

BSA, Standards Australia and are coming together to present a new 10-year roadmap for Australia’s bamboo industry, alongside new economic analysis and work around bamboo standards and specification.

As a proud member of the Bamboo Society of Australia, we’re excited to see bamboo being discussed not simply as a beautiful renewable material, but increasingly through the lens of engineering, manufacturing and construction.

At Bcompact, we work with engineered bamboo every day in our NSW workshop, turning it into compact folding stair and ladder systems that are shipped around the world.

We’ll be sharing more from today’s event and some of Zev’s thoughts on where bamboo could go next in Australian design and manufacturing very soon.

Happy World Bamboo Day. 🌿

Buying from overseas can feel like a big decision.

With Bcompact you’re not just choosing a Stair or Ladder. You’re trusting a small team in Australia to help you get the right solution, organise international shipping, prepare the paperwork, support your installer and answer questions along the way.

That’s exactly what we do.

We’ve been shipping Bcompact products internationally for years, and we’re very comfortable guiding customers through the process from the first measurements right through to installation.

And importantly, there are real people here.

If your builder has a question, they can talk to us. If something is easier to explain by video, we can jump on a call. If you’re unsure which solution suits your space, we’ll help you work through it.

International doesn’t have to mean complicated.

We’ve put together a full guide explaining what buying Bcompact internationally actually looks like.
