A little Christmas project for our own tree! I was fed up with our old star so I made one to last the ages. I even wired up some low voltage lighting to it to make it glow! 🎄

The Mountain Ash Gathering Plate is a labour of love, an anniversary gift to my muse, my amazing wife Chantelle as a token of love, appreciation and gratitude. We love a good movie night together so this piece will serve up snacks whenever we have a movie night!

Finished in a traditional Japanese method known as “Yakisugi or Shou Sugi Ban” which involves charring the wood, burnishing the burnt results with sandpaper and wire brushes and then sealing the charred surface with natural oils. This ancient method has been used on the exterior of Japanese wood clad buildings and is extremely durable lasting decades with minimal maintenance.

“Timberglow” tea candle holder - our latest creation, a quick side project in between others that could be the start of a series of candle holders.

How much does this colour pop! 💥 pretty good for a first coat and it’s going to go off with another coat and the teak top is installed! 🔥

Our latest piece is complete! The Madeira side table is a cookie cut piece of rain tree (native to Central and South America). Sanded to a high grit and finished with then buffed for a super luxurious finish. Completed with gloss black metal legs for contrast and modern styling.

One of those lightbulb moments (pun intended!) - “If it’s stupid and it works, it ain’t stupid.” I’ve been struggling to get a result I was happy with. After lots of trial and error I came to the conclusion that I needed more light. Cue cable ties and an LED torch 😂
