Adjunct Professor Robert Labrom brings a powerful combination of clinical and biomechanical expertise to Sealy’s Orthopaedic Advisory Board.
As a specialist orthopaedic surgeon, Professor Labrom has extensive experience treating complex spinal conditions.
For more than 15 years, he has also worked alongside QUT’s spine research team, helping ensure scientific research remains grounded in real-world clinical understanding.

Emeritus Professor Mark Pearcy has spent more than three decades advancing the field of biomedical engineering.
As QUT’s Foundation Professor of Biomedical Engineering, his research has explored spinal mechanics, orthopaedic engineering and the way the human body responds to forces, movement and support.
That expertise brings an important perspective to Sealy’s Orthopaedic Advisory Board, helping translate complex biomechanics into a deeper understanding of how mattress design ineracts with the body during sleep.

Adjunct Professor Geoff Askin brings decades of clinical experience to Sealy’s Orthopaedic Advisory Board. An internationally recognised spinal orthopaedic surgeon, Professor Askin has built his career around understanding and treating complex spinal conditions.
As a co-founder of QUT’s spine research group, he has also helped bring surgeons, engineers, physiotherapists and scientists together to turn research into meaningful improvements in patient care.
This deep understanding of the spine helps inform Sealy’s ongoing research into how mattress design can better support the body during sleep.

Over time, even high-quality mattress materials naturally begin to lose their shape and support. As they break down, they become less effective at distributing your body weight evenly, which can lead to pressure points, aches, and more tossing and turning throughout the night.
That’s why mattress lifespan isn’t just about age, it’s about performance and investing in better sleep solutions!

When should you replace your mattress? 🛏️
While a quality mattress can last around 7–10 years, it’s not just about age; it’s about how well it supports your sleep.
Some signs it may be time for a new mattress include:
