This piece was going to be burned. Literally.
When it came to me, there was basically nothing left but the main body. No legs, no shelves, and an interior that had to be rebuilt almost entirely from scratch.
I took it apart, cleaned it, restored it, and put it back together. Layer by layer, by hand, I removed years of old finish, dirt, and everything else that had been hiding its true beauty.
What mattered most to me was not taking away its history. I kept every original detail that could possibly be saved — the hardware, the gold accents, the tiny decorative squares, and most importantly, the beautiful marquetry that makes this piece truly one of a kind. It received new legs, a new interior, and a second life.
Today, it is standing on its own feet again. Literally and figuratively. ❤️
This is definitely not a piece for everyone or for every home. I wouldn’t even have the right space for it in my own house. It is substantial — 64” H × 55.5” W × 18” D — full of character, and it needs the right interior and the right person who appreciates pieces like this.
It could become a beautiful home bar, a cabinet for china and glassware, a statement piece in a living or dining room, or even an elegant linen and towel cabinet in a large bathroom. There are so many possibilities — all it takes is a little imagination.
And sometimes I think about the person who was going to burn it…
I wonder if they saw it today, would they regret letting it go just a little? ❤️
P.S. A little note about the photos: some of the images shown here are AI-generated staging images, created only to show how this piece could look and be used in different interiors. The post also includes original, unedited photos of the actual piece.
And one more thing… I simply couldn’t resist putting my four-legged grandson in one of the staged photos. 🐾❤️
What can I say? I think he fits in perfectly. 😄

Two separate pieces, now beautifully brought together. 🤎
This desk has undergone quite a transformation. Removing the old finish from its white-painted base and darker top revealed the beautiful grain and warm tones of the wood. Its details now stand out so much more — the turned legs, panelled fronts and delicate handles.
The chair has a fresh look too: lighter wood, a softly textured backrest and an olive seat finished with decorative nailhead trim. Combining two different fabrics gave it character while preserving its classic elegance.
This is why I love restoring old furniture — uncovering the beauty that is already there and seeing separate pieces come together so naturally.
Swipe through to see what they looked like before. I’d love to hear what you think of this transformation! ✨

Another piece of furniture, another transformation. It is hard to believe that what you see today came from what this piece once looked like. 🤎
This remarkable piece is more than one hundred years old, dating back to 1920. I discovered the production date attached to the underside of the bottom drawer. After more than a century, it remained in remarkably solid condition—made from beautiful, dense solid wood, heavy, sturdy and filled with wonderful carved details.
I have to admit, however, that it has been a long time since any piece of furniture tested my patience as much as this relatively small cabinet. The old finish could not be removed by pressure blasting or with professional stripping products. I had to sand every single inch of it by hand.
I feel as though I used a hundred different pieces of sandpaper and every possible tool in my workshop. The original finish was so strong and had protected the wood so well that this cabinet simply refused to surrender. Eventually, patience won.
Today, its natural wood, beautiful grain and intricate carved details can finally be appreciated again. Previously, so much of its character had been hidden beneath the old yellow-toned finish.
This is also an incredibly versatile piece of furniture. Using AI-created room arrangements, I am showing some of the many ways it could be styled and used—in a living room, a home office, a kitchen as a coffee station, or even in a bathroom as a truly unique vanity.
I will leave the final result for you to judge. Personally, I absolutely love it. It is beautiful, distinctive and completely timeless. This particular piece is staying with me and has found its place in my home office.
Be sure to look at the final photo. Only when you compare the “before” and “after” can you truly appreciate the transformation this century-old piece has undergone.
