• Perfect for Wegner, Møller, Hovmand-Olsen, Volther, and upholstery-to-cord conversions

“Caning Canada did a great job of re-cording our heirloom mid-century Danish chairs. The ability to so expertly restore this type of furniture is an increasingly hard-to-find skill set. Thanks!”

At Caning Canada our handwoven cane involves a meticulous seven-step process to create breathable, elegant surfaces on antique furniture.

Handwoven is when individual strands of cane are woven through drilled holes in a chair frame.

“A man who works with his hands is a labourer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works with his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist” — Louis Nizer.

Let Caning Canada be your artist as we spend the summer in Calgary and the winter just outside of Vancouver in Fort Langley.

Extend the life of your cane and rattan furniture with these tips:

• Cleaning: Use wood soap (e.g., Murphy’s Oil Soap) with a soft cloth. Allow two days to dry.

• Oiling: Apply lemon or teak oil to the porous underside once or twice yearly. Wipe off excess after 15 minutes.

• Avoid Damage: Keep the cane away from heat vents, direct sunlight, or dry rooms to prevent brittleness.

• Tighten Sagging: Wet the underside with a warm, damp towel and let it dry for two days to restore tension.

• Usage: Avoid standing on cane chairs; ensure weight is evenly distributed to prevent sagging or breaking.

• If your cane is sagging or breaking, contact us for expert cane repair services.

In a world full of fast furniture and screens, there’s something truly special about something made by hand—one careful weave at a time.
