Had a great class the other day with these two, learning some new hand tool skills and techniques.
For those of you who asked, yes indeed, I offer private classes for both individuals and small groups. If my week long classes don’t work for you, reach out. I’m flexible and always ready for spending time working wood.
Thanks again gentlemen!

Building a frame for a calendar and magnetic board… it’ll hold all of the paper work that tends to gather on the front of our refrigerator! Some interesting joinery with through dovetails for the middle stretcher and a kind of lapped/through mortise and tenon for the corners. A practical and potentially mundane project that is elevated through hand cut joinery. Walnut and curly quartersawn white oak. New episodes on An Unplugged Life… details on the Unplugged Woodshop website.

Speaking of home renovations… ours started with a powder room off of the new kitchen. We purchased a rather unique sink, suitable for a small space. The thing was, it needed a cabinet underneath so it was off to the design stages and this is what I came up with. Using vertical grain/quarter-sawn Fir, I was able to follow the front profile of the sink and have an interesting coopered element. Fun stuff indeed. Small cabinets like this are great to design and build… if that’s something that interests you, and you’d like to learn how to do this yourself, check out my online membership or better yet, take a class with me here in Cape Breton! And…. just like that I’m back home. Edge jointing parts for the last of the cabinet doors in the new kitchen. 8 more doors, 32 more bridal joints, all will be painted, three will have glass panels. To say I’ll be happy to see these hanging would be an understatement…
Once complete, it’ll be a day or two of fine tuning and we’ll be calling this kitchen/powder room project complete! Hooray!! -;) but still, lots of work to be done…did I mention the classes out here in Cape Breton? Check the website for details and come make some shavings this summer or fall !!!…and don’t forget to make reservations, the Island will be busy so please plan ahead.
