Have you ever seen a dahlia so beautiful it genuinely kept you awake at night? That was me the first time I saw the Japanese dahlia Tsuki-no Suzu blooming in my friend’s garden. I came home and could not stop thinking about her.

The soft, relaxed petal formation already makes this variety feel incredibly elegant and artistic… but then you notice the contrasting colour petaloids hidden within every petal. And suddenly you realize this is something truly special.

Contrasting petaloids are one of the rarest and most highly desirable traits in dahlias right now, because they create so much depth, texture, and movement within the bloom. Every petal feels layered, sculptural, and almost hand-painted.

Early in the season she opens in luminous bright pink tones, but when the weather cools down she transforms into the dreamiest desaturated mauve with delicate feathered brushstrokes across every petal. The colour shift alone feels magical.

Honestly, flowers like this remind me why I fell in love with dahlias in the first place. Human hybridization and nature working together to create something completely out-of-this-world beautiful.
