Dahlia tubers. Artisanal and heirloom plant seeds and seedlings. Annuals. Perennials. Flowers.

10/29/2026

A few last flowers for the vase while we turn our full attention to what’s beneath the soil.

There’s always a little reluctance in cutting the final bouquets. I still find myself looking for buds, wishing for another week of flowers, even as we’re busy lifting tubers on the farm.

Our days are filled with digging, hauling, dividing and labelling. Muddy hands, heavy clumps, and the lovely surprise of seeing what each plant has made underground.

This bouquet is a small pause in all that hard work. One more chance to enjoy the flowers before we tuck away the beginnings of next season.

Have you lifted your dahlias yet, or are you still holding on to the last blooms?

Velvet with a little sparkle… ✨

Dahlia ‘Sissinghurst’, looking quite at home in a flower bed beside Keukenhof Castle. Such a fitting setting for this regal beauty! 🏰♥️✨

Deep, velvety red fades towards the petal tips, with an occasional glimmer of lilac as the light catches them. Even after years of growing dahlias, details like these still make me stop and stare.

The colour is beautiful, but the texture is what keeps me looking… how can the same petal appear both matte and shimmering? Can anyone explain this little bit of flower magic? ✨ I’m beyond fascinated. ❤️

Another beauty bred by the Grand Dutch Master of dahlias, Peter Komen.

A few days before visiting Keukenhof Castle last season, I saw dahlia Davina Michelle dahlia blooming in Peter Komen’s garden. She was one of those uniquely beautiful flowers I quietly kept thinking about afterwards.

The colour felt completely different from most purples I’ve seen. The petals begin almost purple black at the base, soften into a muted dusky purple through the middle, and then fade into the gentlest wash of barely there purple at the tips. Add the subtle shimmer and the whole flower seems to change every time the light moves.

Then a few days later I saw her again at Keukenhoff castle gardens. Seeing her in a glorious castle landscape setting made everything click.

Flowers like this remind me how much thought, restraint and discernment goes into exceptional hybridizing. Creating something that feels this balanced and distinctive takes a remarkable eye and years of patient work. Davina Michelle feels less like a chance and more like a flower that was carefully developed and brought to life with outstanding skill and taste.

Dahlia Davina Michelle is a true work of breeding art by the grand Dutch master Peter Komen, and one of the introductions I was most excited to share with North America in 2026 💜

Dahlia Karma Lagoon 💜 Introduced by Gebr. Verwer in the Netherlands in 1994, which makes this beauty more than 30 years old — and yet somehow she still looks completely modern.

Karma Lagoon is one of those dahlias that doesn’t need unusual markings or exotic petal structure to get your attention. The colour does all the work. Add the dark stems, beautiful foliage and those big, lush blooms, and she absolutely glows in the garden.

With so many new dahlias being introduced every year, it’s easy to become distracted by the newest and rarest. And then a variety like Karma Lagoon blooms and reminds me that a truly exceptional dahlia doesn’t become less beautiful just because it has been around for three decades.

32 years later, and still an absolute showstopper. 💜

I absolutely love the unusual colouring on this one — a soft candy-yellow centre melting into layers of sugar pink, all wrapped up in the most beautiful fringed petals. 💕🌼

Kogane Fubuki is a medium-sized laciniated dahlia with so much texture and personality. She’s beautiful in the garden, wonderful for cutting, and definitely one of those dahlias that makes you stop for a closer look.

Something a little whimsical, a little playful, and very hard to resist. 😍
