Why your non-profit needs branding 06/05/2019

New blog post: Why your non-profit needs branding

When I say branding, chances are you are thinking of logo and maybe, just maybe, colour or some other abstract arty elements. But branding goes way beyond that. Whether you are a for-profit, a non-profit or a social entreprise, branding is the impression you leave behind you. It’s the imperceptible opinion others have made about you. It’s all about how others see you and what lasting impact your organisation makes. And it has very little to do with how you see yourself.

One important misconception about branding is that you can opt out of it. The truth is you can’t. As soon as you start presenting your organisation to the public, you can’t opt out of your organisation leaving an impression on others. What you do have control over is what kind of impression you will leave - and that is why branding is so important. It’s important because you can’t escape it so might as well do it well.

Change the way you think about charity 05/21/2019

A bit of a different type of post for my design page, but as someone who works with charities and the non-profit sector a lot, I am constantly challenged to justify why charities can and should invest in their branding/ design.

This TED talk by Dan Pallotta is an oldie but such a goody on the importance of challenging how we think about charities. Check it out in my blog today and leave your thoughts. I'd love to hear what you think about this!

Change the way you think about charity In my branding and design work with non-profits and charities, I am often challenged to explain why it’s so important for the non for profit sector to market and brand well. It’s generally accepted misconception that charities should not spend money on “superfluous” things such as branding, ...

It was such fun to get to create an innovative new brand from scratch with a very open brief. We wanted Datatrotters to have a modern and bold feel that would represent its core values, with an element of playfulness.

I’m so happy with the final look and feel of the game - distinctive, bold and inviting!

Magali Børsum and I first met over 10 years ago though our husbands who went to grad school together in London. Although Magali is also from France, her and her family live in Oslo so we don’t see each other regularly but about 2 years ago she asked me to create a birth announcement card for her 3rd son. Fast forward a few years later when Magali gets back in touch with me tell me about her new company, Datatrotters. Find out more about Datatrotters' new brand on my blog!

First life drawing class in 15 years! Oh how much fun. It was just amazing feeling 20 again for an evening, hoping in the metro with my art supplies and spending 3 hours drawing with not a worry in the world! I was a bit worried that I might have lost the touch but some of it came back.
Thank you for suggesting it and babysitting so that I had no excuse! Best cousin-to-be ever!
