Built in just two weeks. This custom kitchen island by Kolo Wood & Design is quite literally where craftsmanship and history meet.
An 8-foot solid ash counter top anchors the space, resting on 130+ year-old reclaimed wood beams we transformed into bold, one-of-a-kind legs.
When we started the process of surfacing the slabs we found metal throughout the wood that left permanent stains in the slab, a reminder of the wood’s past life and a detail that adds depth, character, and authenticity you simply can’t recreate.
The open shelf design keeps it functional and airy, with plenty of room for four stools. This table is made for everyday living, gathering, and lingering a little longer.

As we quietly closed our doors over the holidays, we took time to reflect on 2025 and the incredible dedication of the Kolo Wood & Design team.
This year, we didn’t just meet our goals, we surpassed them. Anyone who has run a small business knows the hard work, long hours, and personal sacrifices it takes to turn a passion into reality. Going beyond what we once imagined for our boutique wood business was no small feat, and we’re incredibly proud of what we accomplished this year.
The growth and progress of Kolo Wood & Design Co. would not have been possible without our amazing partners, Chris Zieren and Bowes, our master wood turner Tim Cline, and the team at Ottawa Valley Tree Experts and Independent Tree Care for helping us grow our inventory of logs this year.
We are also deeply grateful to every client who trusted us with their projects, attended our workshops, joined us for open houses, or simply stopped by for advice on their own woodworking journeys. However you found your way to us, thank you, we truly appreciate your support.

KWD Open House Next Weekend!
Get into the Christmas spirit with us on Saturday, December 13th. We're opening our doors from 9 AM – 2 PM for our annual holiday open house. Shop is filling up nicely with freshly made charcuterie boards, butcher block boards, cake stands, pens, and you can even check out our slab inventory of ash, walnut, spalted maple, butternut, and more.
