Happy National Hunting, Trapping and Fishing Day!

Ten years ago, as Member of Parliament, was proud to vote for my friend and former colleague MP Rick Norlock’s private member’s bill that established a National Hunting, Trapping and Fishing Heritage Day to be celebrated annually on the third Saturday of September.

As Canadians, we understand the importance of conservation, and those who hunt and fish for recreation or for food understand the need to manage this activity properly so it will be something that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

I hope you all had the chance to enjoy Hunting, Trapping and Fishing Day 2023!

PARLIAMENTARY OUTDOOR CAUCUS: Co-Chairs Bob Zimmer MP and Ken McDonald, Co-Vice Chairs Brendan Hanley and Chris Lewis MP, along with other members, welcomed avid angler and long-time host of the "Real Fishing Show" Bob Izumi's Real Fishing as a newly inducted honorary caucus member at the 2023 Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus AGM.

We heard a presentation about the 30 by 30 agenda, which has resulted in arbitrary closures restricting Canadians' access to fishing, hunting, or other outdoor activities.

Thank you to all the members who came out today.

Happy National Hunting, Trapping and Fishing Heritage Day 2022 from the Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus!

OTTAWA: We are pleased to see that the concerns we outlined in our letter to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack last week were taken seriously and that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service listened to stakeholders when coming to this science-based decision to revise its ruling.

This decision will not only provide American hunters with clear guidelines when returning to the United States, it will also help to ensure Canada’s outdoor tourism industry, including our hunting guides and outfitters, have a successful season after years of economic hardship due to COVID restrictions.

On behalf of Canada's Parliamentary Outdoor Caucus, we want to thank all those who brought this issue to our attention. It is gratifying to see this conclude with a common-sense decision to reverse the blanket import ban.

URGENT: Here is the letter that our Co-Chairs Bob Zimmer MP and Ken McDonald sent to the Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack asking to reverse the unnecessary and unscientific decision by the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ban waterfowl harvested in Canada by hunters into the US.
