Planning to hike Echo Lake?
Please plan for the river crossing, too.
We are seeing an increase in calls for hikers stranded at the Echo Lake trailhead after being unable to cross the Squamish River on their return, or encountering challenging river conditions during the crossing.
The crossing is tidal.
Just because you can make it across on the way in, it does not mean you will be able to cross back in similar conditions later in the day.
This weekend, our members also witnessed people attempting the crossing on Explorer 100 inflatables, while others were doubling up on paddleboards without PFDs or leashes. These situations can quickly become emergencies if conditions change or someone ends up in the water.
Just to add a bit more context to our recommendation—for this particular 200–300 m crossing, we generally encourage using a leash because becoming separated from your board has repeatedly turned a manageable situation into a rescue. As with any paddling environment, people should understand the risks, use appropriate equipment, and make informed decisions based on the conditions.
Before you go:
• Check the tides for both your departure and return.
• Wear a properly fitted PFD.
• Use equipment appropriate for the conditions.
• If you’re unsure, don’t cross.
A successful hike doesn’t end at the lake—it ends when everyone gets home safely.
If you know someone planning to hike Echo Lake this summer, please share this reminder. A little preparation can help prevent an emergency.

One thing that always annoys me is when people assume designers have one signature look.
I am not a one-trick pony designer, I don't think every clients space should look the same.
Some homes need their furniture to stand up to kids, dogs and lots of chaos. Some are designed for entertaining and some are meant to feel calm, cozy and comfortable at the end of a long day.
That's great design! It is never copy and paste.
I won't force my style into your home. I create spaces that reflect you, your lifestyle, and how you live.
I design spaces around life, your life.
Because it's your space, let's spruce it up.

If your coffee table has outlived two marriages and a golden retriever, it might be time for a home refresh.
If your sofa has a permanent dent with your name on it, your drapery is old enough to vote, and your design style is "it seemed like a good idea in 1985," we should chat.
We help people fall in love with their homes again. Whether you're downsizing, upsizing, welcoming a new baby, or finally admitting that the floral recliner isn't going to come back in style, we can help!
From furniture and fabrics to window coverings and finishings, decor and space planning, we help you create a home that looks pulled together, feels comfortable, and does not require an explanation!
Life is too short to spend it apologizing to your guests and friends for your furniture.
Call Sitka Design & Decor before your house turns into a heritage site.
It's your space, so let's spruce it up!

Do you know somebody ready for a home intervention?
Maybe the kids have flown the nest, and they're wondering why they are still cleaning bedrooms nobody uses?
Maybe a new baby is on the way, and they're trying to figure out where to put the crib, change table and 4000 tiny outfits?
Or maybe they are looking at furniture they bought when disco was on the radio and thinking "it's time"?
At Sitka, we specialize in furniture, fabrics, finishings, decor and space planning. Most importantly, we make sure you don't end up with a sofa that won't fit through your door or an area rug that is the size of a beach towel.
If you are downsizing, upsizing, nesting, renovating or just ready for a change, tell them about Sitka Design & Decor in Squamish. We service the Lower Mainland, Sea-to-Sky corridor and wherever your space may be.
It's your space, so let's "Spruce it Up!"
