The risk of postpartum depression is 13% (rates vary) but for those that have gone through infertility the risk increase to 25%.
The feelings of anxiety, pain and fear that happen during infertility continue during pregnancy and postpartum.
It is important to discuss those feelings with family and healthy care providers to improve your mental health before the baby arrives.
Make a plan with your partner for how you plan to look after your mental health during postpartum.
As a postpartum doula I am trained to look for signs of anxiety, depression and mood disorders and direct you to professional resources such as therapy and counselling.
From personal experience I tried my best to let those anxious feelings go during pregnancy. It was not easy but I felt it was important. Try by starting to find joy and happiness in the small moments. 💕.

The best way to support a friend going through infertility is to listen.
Listen to their worries, fear, and pain.

This week is Infertility Awareness Week so I thought I would share my story.......
When I started my journey to have a baby I never imagined the challenges and heartache I would face; over 221 injections, countless doctors and acupuncture appointments, IVF, 21 eggs retrieved, and what felt like an ocean of tears.
Despite all the pain I have gone through there are so many things I am thankful for.
I am thankful that I found the inner strength to get up everyday and move one step closer to my miracle.
I am thankful that after 3 long years I was blessed with a baby girl.
I am thankful that this journey through infertility and to motherhood has led me to my dream career of being a postpartum Doula
For my 1 in 8 sisters, I am sorry, I am truly sorry for what you are going through. But let’s not hide anymore let’s talk about our experience and our hurt so we can heal and love ourselves unconditionally ❤️.

When it comes to packing the diaper bag, except the unexpected!
Be sure to pack items for you to mama, nursing pads, change of shirt even an extra bra. You just never know what might happen.
You can also keep extra supplies in your car as an extra emergency back up.

Choosing the right bottles, pump and other feeding products can be very overwhelming.
Spend some time researching products that you think will fit the needs for you and your family.
If you are bottle feeding it’s a good idea to have 2 different types of bottles to start with and let you baby decide what kind they prefer.
Make sure to creat a space to store all the products. Choose a spot that is easily accessible, because it will quickly become your most used cabinet 🙈🤣

Here is a true story!
When I came home from the hospital with my newborn daughter, I couldn’t detach the car seat from the base!
I had practiced a dozen times the month before she was born but in that moment in our driveway when all we wanted to do was go inside our home we were stuck!!
As a first time mom I was in full panic mode frantically trying to get her out of the car. I ended up unbuckling her 🤷♀️🙈
Luckily with the help of YouTube we were eventually able to get the car seat out..
My advice to you is to really spent time to use all your products before the arrival of your baby, so that it is one less thing you have to worry about.
If you have pets it’s also a good idea to let them get used to seeing the car seat in the home and walking next to the stroller.

Overnight oats are easy and nutritious, here is my favourite recipe for postpartum mamas. The best part is... several of the ingredients boost milk production! 🥛🤱
3/4 cups of oats
2 Tbsp chia seeds
2 Tbsp h**p hearts
3 Tbsp flaxseed
Your choice of fruit
Optional (cinnamon, chocolate chips, nut butter, any kind of nuts or seeds)
Pour everything in a jar. Gift it to a postpartum mama. All she has to do is add her choice of milk to the jar the night before and place in fridge. In the morning she can enjoy it cold or warm.
