Vegans, rejoice! Porter House on Dundas West delivers out-of-this world pub grub that you won't even know is vegan. No more fake burgers and other meat-imitating dishes. This place serves beautiful, thought-out fare that doesn't need meat to shine. Not even in its dishes' names. http://porterhouseto.com

Baker and Scone 11/20/2014

Here's the thing about scones: they're either a great hit or a miserable, chewy, mouth-cementing miss. Maybe that's why scones don't have the same fan base as croissants. But there is now a place that may have just changed that. Check out Baker & Scone, at St Clair and Christie. To call their creations scones (considering our misgivings above) is almost unfair. Yet scones they are, absolutely mouth-watering and buttery not to mention full of fantastic flavours. From savoury (Dill and Cheddar) to sweet (Orange Cardamom Date) to savory-sweet (Salted Caramel) – Baker and Scone features several dozen on their roster, made from scratch in front of you. The place also has a few tables where you can enjoy a latte and a second helping of the scones. Spread the jam...err, the word!

In the true spirit of Kensington, another little gem just opened its doors on Baldwin St, just next door to Sanagan's Meat Locker: MOO FRITES - Belgian frite shop. When it comes to sauce, if you imagine it they have it. Ambrose, the owner, came up with the concept after spending time traveling through Europe and sustaining himself on mostly frites in Belgium. Head down to Moo for your street fry craving.

This is truly a great little place - Windup Bird Cafe at College and Borden. It's not just cozy - it wraps around you like a woolen shawl. It feeds you beautiful food. Its owner, Sang Kim is a Toronto institution. He tells stories like no one else. Mark this as your perfect hideout for the winter.

We were at DT Bistro for brunch and some Harbord st magic. Not new, but so so wonderfully "harbordy". Deserves it's own word.
