We’ve been keeping a big secret.
Vitray started after I came back from Positano and the Amalfi Coast, still thinking about the topography of that part of Italy: Cinque Terre, terraced hillsides, stacked colour, architecture tucked into cliffs.
Colour blocking, but not the early-aughts “arranged bookshelf” version.
We started bold with Riomaggiore, then quieted it into a tonal blue for a young man’s room. Now we’re taking it somewhere more neutral, where the wool and silk can do the work and the geometry gets a little more grown up.
Colour takes conviction. Pattern takes command. The reveal is coming.

A rug like Fissure Mallard is not the “base layer” you apologize for in a room.
It is the atmosphere. The colour story. The thing that lets everything else make sense.
And for designers, this is where the business conversation matters.
A hand-knotted wool rug with an ombré field, silk detailing, and custom capability is never going to behave like a commodity rug. Nor should it. The labour, material, dye work, mapping, finishing, and technical precision required to make a piece like this are substantial, especially when gradient work is involved.
The opportunity for designers is not to find the cheapest possible version of the idea. It is to understand the value of specifying something with integrity, then present it to the client with confidence and margin built in.
At many luxury showrooms, a rug of this calibre would cost significantly more. MHC was built to give designers access to serious rug making, real customization, and a more transparent path to specification without stripping out the quality or the designer’s profitability.
If the rug is doing major work in the room, it deserves to be budgeted like it is doing major work in the room.
Fissure Mallard can be customized in palette, material, scale, shape, and detail. But the value is not only in what can be changed.
The value is in what it makes possible. This Fissure Mallard has now arrived in the U.S. and is en route to the receiving warehouse, ahead of installation for the design team who commissioned it.

FADE.
The original ombré, beginning with two poms: one light, one dark. Our dyeing experts in Nepal handle everything in between.
Fade came before Fissure, but it was always designed to be redesigned. Make it your own as a stripe, carving, live edge, or layered foundation. A perfect base to build your vision, or simply to be the whole statement.
Quiet or loud. It’s up to you.

A little preview of what’s coming.
LUCKY STRIKE in Flamingo — hand knotted in Nepal in New Zealand wool and natural silk.
If it looks vaguely familiar, it should.
Lucky Strike began with FADE — one of our deceptively simple gradient designs — and then we started playing.
The gradient became dual, moving light to dark to light, and we introduced the fissure that cuts through it.
FADE. FISSURE. LUCKY STRIKE.
Three rugs sharing the same DNA, each pushed somewhere different.
It’s also a glimpse into how we think about customization at MHC. A design from our Collection — or our archive — doesn’t have to be the finished answer. It can be the starting point.
Change the colour. Change the fibre. Shift the gradient. Borrow an element. Add something. Take something away.
Make it yours.
Lucky Strike — Flamingo.

**YOU DON’T NEED TO BECOME A RUG EXPERT. YOU JUST NEED ONE ON YOUR TEAM.**
This is **Terra in Fjord**, and there’s a lot more happening here than choosing a few beautiful colours.
It’s knowing how far you can push colour before it overwhelms a room. How to mix pattern without creating chaos. How scale changes the way a pattern reads. Where contrast is needed and where the eye needs somewhere to rest.
And then there’s the part most designers never get the opportunity to learn: **finishing.**
Where to carve. What to raise. What fibre belongs where. How different pile heights can completely transform a pattern. How a line drawn on paper translates when it’s being interpreted by hand. And when to tell the maker, *no, that’s not quite right.*
That knowledge comes from years of designing rugs, interiors, textiles and patterns, making mistakes, fixing them, pushing our makers and learning what actually works.
And we offer all of that experience to other designers.
Bring us your room. Bring us your fabrics, your paint colours, the weird vintage chair you’re obsessed with, the pattern you can’t quite make work, or even just the feeling you’re trying to create.
We’ll help you figure out the rug.
Because MHC isn’t here simply to sell designers rugs.
We’re here to make designers better at using them.
And when the rug is right, the whole room levels up.

**Quiet doesn’t have to mean simple.**
Folded Origami in **Pebble** is one of those rugs that reveals itself slowly.
From across the room, it reads as a beautifully restrained neutral. Get closer and the geometry starts to unfold. Angles intersect, planes shift, carved lines change direction and pile heights create shadow. There is a LOT going on here, it just isn’t shouting about it.
Which is precisely why I love it in a room like this.
The architecture already has its own rhythm. The panelling, the coffered ceiling, those incredible windows. The rug doesn’t compete with any of it. It picks up the geometry and gives all that beautiful brown, stone and putty somewhere to land.
For the pattern-phobic who still want a room with some personality.

Our Brushed Fringe rug was customized with silk fringe and a denser knot count, giving the piece an even more luxurious lustre while preserving the quiet texture and tonal depth of the original design.

STRATA - MIDNIGHT
nspired by the earth. Designed for light.
Just as fractured rock reveals different colours as the sun moves across its surface, Strata is designed to evolve throughout the day. The result is a rug that feels endlessly nuanced—never fixed, never flat, always revealing something new.
A Signature Detail
Strata is intentionally mutable. As natural light shifts throughout the day, so too does the rug—revealing new tones, richer texture and an entirely different mood from morning to evening.
