It’s getting autumn-ish and Düren is switching on its lights again. And because they invited DUNDU, there will also be a little illumination walking. A little … well, metres high.
On November 7th, DUNDU and 8-metre VEKTOR will be out and about at „Düren leuchtet”. If you're around, come and wave hello. Imagine being invited to a secret masquerade ball in Venice. Doesn’t that sound wonderful?
But now … imagine being five metres tall, glowing in the dark and having to cross the water to get there without anybody noticing. Well. That could have become DUNDU's little problem if … our team wasn’t perfect in logistics and in keeping their mouths shut. So, we won't tell you where the party took place, because some secrets should remain secrets. But what we can reveal is, that getting a Giant of Light to a Venetian masquerade ball requires creativity. And a bigger boat than most of the guests needed. At the end, we came, saw and managed. Mission completed.

Turning 20 has to be celebrated. Be it a person, be it a festival, be it a Giant of Light. But what are the chances to celebrate a birthday with thousands of guests?
Well, that's exactly what happened at „Waiblingen leuchtet”, which also turned 20.

There, DUNDU became part of the official birthday party. With music, movement, busy streets and places and people who really had no intention at all of going home early. So, Happy Birthday, „Waiblingen leuchtet”! And a big heartfelt thank you for inviting another 20-year-old.

Sure, there are way more than five good reasons to invite DUNDU to your next event. But here's the lowest common denominator: Don’t book a Giant of Light just because he's big, glowing and rather good-looking on Social Media. Book him because he really can do something special for your event like welcoming guests, dancing with your crowd, walking someone to stage or make an international audience feel at home without a single word being used. Which is a quite useful talent, don’t you think so?

If you were a new artistic director opening your first season, who would you invite? Bernadette Sonnenbichler invited us. We were glad she did. Theatre and DUNDU share more than you might think. (Even if our main characters never have to learn a single line.) And working with other artists always inspires us, be it theatre people, music people or event people. There are evenings where one Giant of Light simply isn’t enough. Not because we like to show off (maybe only a little bit), but because each event has its own rhythm. And the Giant of Light that is perfect for the first Hello might not be the one you want when the evening reaches its peak. Or maybe you do. (And that’s why good things come in different sizes.)

But there’s one thing that needs to be massive: Our „Thank you!” to Blue Luna for having the DUNDU family at the Porsche Raceborn Dinner. It was a blast!

How can you summon more than 2 billion of children? Honestly, you can't. But you can give them a representative. For the World Child Forum „Kick off for Peace” in Berlin, a Giant of Light became the „World Child“: Playing, glowing, helping to plant the idea of a childrens’ world without hate, borders, prejudice into peoples’ heads. Because evoking emotions that lead to something good, that's a thing the Giants of Light are pretty perfect at.

Without needing a translation, btw. Quite useful in a metropole like Berlin. Or Istanbul, Seoul or somewhere else in the world. Because just like children, DUNDU feels at home, where friends are. No matter the culture, language or latitude.

Well, yes, DUNDU and Turkey really aren’t strangers. We’ve performed here before, met Turkish audiences before and learned one or two small things about how quickly a Giant of Light can make friends without speaking a single word of Turkish. But this September … this September is different: We are heading to Istanbul with BABY DUNDU. Not just for another performance, but to start building our own local DUNDU team. Trained locally, getting ready for events in Turkey and beyond. So, Turkey, time to get a little closer. Stay tuned.
