I’ve mentioned before offering new instruments for immediate sale, and I’m happy to say that I’m finally able to do so. This instrument was made for a local concert series last year, and is now available for purchase. I called this instrument Estelle - a 17” acoustic Archtop, 25.25” scale, and a 2nd pickguard with a floating hand wound floater. The guitar will ship in one of my new, custom, faux-alligator cases. What a luxury! Send a message or email for further details.

I am sharing this now not to cause alarm, but I suppose to serve as something of a warning. Two weeks ago today my family and I were driving our eldest son to college in Lyon, and we were struck from behind at roughly 140 kph by a rented minivan driven by two young men. Before we were were whisked away to the nearest hospital, the driver of the vehicle admitted to me he tried to pass us but misjudged the distance between the vehicles. The passenger of the minvan tried to flee the scene in another vehicle which arrived driven by friends of theirs, saying he was late for a train in Paris. In the end, the police made no accident report. We have lost our car, and my wife and I continue to suffer pains and numbness following the incident. I am happy to see this small bit of information regarding the event online - if anyone out there has any recollection of or information about this wreck, I would love to hear from you.

Peu avant 14 heures, mardi 25 août, suite à un ralentissement, une collision impliquant deux véhicules s’est produite sur l’autoroute A7, en direction de Lyon, et à hauteur de Valence.

Summer batch in the spray booth, I’m looking forward to having these strung up and ready to go in about a month. A custom “long form” guitar (more on this later), a custom 16.5” instrument, and a solid wood Jazz Special. Nothing standard these days, but that suits me fine. Next up will be a long form guitar with a Florentine cutaway. Will wonders never cease….

The spring batch is finally done and ready to ship. Calore, Artifex, and ? “Amoeba” seems like an apt moniker.

One aspect of my contribution to guitar making has been to revisit designs of the past, and find out what makes them tick. As many of you know, James D’Aquisto is a favorite of mine, and cultivating an understanding of his “tweeters and woofers” double soundholes has been an important part of my practice these last 6 months - ultimately, I think I’m a fan.

Not one to disappoint, here’s a short bench video of the 3. Amazingly, the little blue one stays in perfect tune over 3 octaves.

If you’re in southern France the last week of May, try to drop by the temple de Puech in Bouquet, for a bit of classical and acoustic jazz played by Pierre Henri Xuereb (viola) Ruixin Niu (violin) and Adrien Giovaninetti (guitars). They’re covering quite the musical gamut (from Paganini to Grappelli), and will feature a few of my instruments. I may even make a short speech - hoping to see you there…

I know I’ve been talking about modernizing the Broadway a bit lately, but after completing this latest instrument, I’ve decided to leave things as they are. The 16” straight braced varnished guitar is a pinnacle of design, and thus it shall remain. Sorry for the poor cropping on the photos - I blame instagram.

Another Jazz Special shipping out today. This one without a finger rest, and featuring a floating humbucker from Pete Biltoft, one of the last in my possession. Next on the bench for setup will be the varnished Broadway, then the trio of modern guitars. A busy springtime in the shop…
