A Little Story About ‘The Shack’

Making something from nothing has been my fascination from the moment my mum handed me a bag of toilet roll tubes and some empty cereal boxes. Glue pot ready and paint brush in hand, my six year old self set out to make factories, houses, volcanoes and pirate ships whenever I had a second to spare.

Over the years my art work took a more ‘on canvas’ route until paint brush finally met furniture seven years ago while renovating a bistro in France. My experienced friend there taught me everything she knew about restoring and repairing furniture from splicing wood into the cracks of tables to painting and distressing chairs. Working together, we up-cycled furniture alongside our gardening business. Both of those things became a passion that I could not let go, and that have helped me since on a recovery from mental illness and a badly broken leg...

In 2016 I returned to the UK and badly broke my leg while 5 months pregnant. Refurbishing friend’s and family’s furniture while I went through several operations - including a cesarean and a total knee replacement - gave me purpose and drive and eventually, after offering my services a little further afield, I had enough work in 2019 to launch my business. And so, Amy’s Furniture Shack was born.

I work from a shed in my garden, applying all that I know and still learning new techniques and skills along the way. As a Jack of All Trades, I offer a wide range of services.
