Dining tables for people who'd rather not have the one everyone else has. Start from one of my designs or from a clean sheet of paper. Classic? Never. Original?

Always. Formerly Design In The Sand.

The Sving. Sving is Danish for turn, or sweep - which is exactly what the brushed stainless steel legs do. A birch Edge Grain Ply top, designed as one piece with the base. Made to order in the UK.

Every table starts as a drawing. This is how the Sving got from paper to a dining room - and yours would start the same way, with your room, your dimensions and a conversation with me.

Bespoke dining tables in Edge Grain Ply, designed and made in the UK.

Every line you can see is a layer of ply, turned on its edge. Others hide the edge or show it as a trim - we make it the whole surface. This is poplar: lighter, softer, cream and brown.

Design In The Sand is now Design & Irony.

The old name kept promising beach houses and driftwood. The tables had gone somewhere else entirely - cleaner, bolder and much harder to put in a box. So the name has caught up.

Every table we design makes at least one choice a sensible designer would avoid. Make the edge of the ply - the part everyone else covers up - the whole top? Yes. Put it on a leg that looks like it shouldn't work? That too. And it still comes out considered.

Four new leg designs - Poise, Sving, Discern and Acuity. Seven collections. A new website to match.

Same account. Same designer answering your messages. Just a lot less sand.

Mounting the legs with just a 10mm overlap changes the looks so much - just another option for our Bespoke Edge Grain Tables
