I remember when I had my first daughter reading about a baby's development week by week. Every baby is unique and milestones are only guidelines but nevertheless I would enjoy reading and finding out what was yet to come.

Alongaide the talking to my baby this was also one of my favourite early on activities to do with her:

In their second week of life, your baby can focus on objects 8 to 14 inches away—about the distance between their eyes and yours during a feeding. So as you feed your little one, move your head slowly from side to side and see if their eyes follow you. This exercise helps build their eye muscles and tracking skills.

Since babies' eyes are still developing, it's much easier for them to practice their visual exercises with high-contrast objects.
All my mobiles are made using black and white felt and more importantly each pattern faces down so your baby can have full view of each high contrast shape.
