We were delighted to attend the SEND Summer Marketplace today, held at Danson Youth Centre connecting with parent carers, families and professionals from across Bexley.
The event provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase our new partnership project with SELCE as part of the Vulnerability and Carbon Monoxide Allowance (VCMA) programme.
Gustavo from SELCE was on hand throughout the morning providing practical advice and information to parent carers on energy affordability, reducing household bills, carbon monoxide safety, and the benefits of joining the Priority Services Register (PSR).
Carers do so much for others, often putting their own wellbeing last.
By working with SELCE we are ensuring carers in Bexley can access trusted advice, reduce energy-related stress and receive additional support during challenging times.
A huge thank you to Bexley Voice - Parent Carer Forum Information for organising such a well-attended and valuable event.
We look forward to continuing to support carers and families across the borough.

Temperatures across London and the South East are expected to reach 28–30°C this week and into the weekend.
While many of us enjoy the sunshine, hot weather can pose serious risks for older people, those living with dementia, individuals with long-term health conditions, and people taking certain medications.
💧 Encourage regular drinks
🏠 Keep homes cool where possible
👀 Watch for signs of dehydration or heat exhaustion
❤️ Check in on vulnerable family members, friends and neighbours
A simple reminder to have a drink, rest in the shade, or close the curtains can make a significant difference.
Please take care of yourselves too and stay hydrated.

When you’re caring for someone else, your own health is often the first thing to slip.
Quietly. Gradually. Almost unnoticed.
A GP appointment can wait another week. That dental pain can be managed for now. The screening letter stays unopened on the kitchen side. Medication reviews, proper rest and a full night’s sleep become things you’ll get around to later.
Except later doesn’t always come.
For many unpaid carers, every day is spent responding to someone else’s needs.
Their own wellbeing is squeezed into the gaps, and sometimes there are no gaps at all.
That’s why this Carers Week we’re talking about prevention, not just recognition.
Because support matters.
A regular, reliable break can mean the difference between coping and struggling. It creates space to attend appointments, recharge, catch your breath and look after your own health before exhaustion, stress or burnout take hold.
Everyone benefits.
When unpaid carers are supported to stay well, the people they care for are better supported too.
If you’re caring for someone we’re here to help.

Social care is about more than services.
Every day, unpaid carers provide personal care, emotional support, supervision, transport and reassurance to the people who depend on them.
Often quietly. Often without recognition.
Many balance caring alongside work, family life and their own health challenges.
This Carers Week, we are calling for communities that identify unpaid carers early, support them properly and ensure they never face caring alone.
At Crossroads Care South East London, we know unpaid carers need more than thanks. They need understanding, practical support and the opportunity to take a break.
Because caring isn’t a one-week issue.
It’s 365 days a year.

Today at the Carers Week event held at the Holiday Inn,Bexley, we met with unpaid carers, partners and local organisations to recognise the extraordinary contribution of unpaid carers and to welcome the launch of the new Unpaid Carers Guide.
Information matters.
So does support.
And sometimes, a timely break can be the difference between coping and reaching crisis point.
For unpaid carers, navigating services is rarely straightforward. That’s why clear guidance, early intervention and access to respite breaks are so important.
When unpaid carers are supported early, families are stronger, wellbeing improves and people are better able to continue in their caring role.
Because unpaid carers matter. Every day.
