This 1970s terraced house has been transformed with a basement kitchen renovation. Maple-veneered birch plywood fronts, white quartz worktops, and subtle use of colour create a light, cheerful, open-plan kitchen-diner.
The island features a BORA downward extraction hob, eliminating the need for overhead ventilation and enabling a clean, open island layout.

Maple-veneered birch plywood fronts + a subtle use of blue in the handles creates a fun joyful kitchen in this 1970s home.
The stainless steel Quooker Fusion Square tap provides instant boiling, as well as hot and cold filtered water.
Circular handles are a simple choice — but not a basic one. They offer a timeless shape that won’t date, a small design decision that quietly elevates the whole kitchen.

New to the website gallery & blog!
Maple-veneered birch plywood fronts + circular recessed handles, with blue Formica Dusty Jade inserts.
We asked the homeowner how they found working with Plykea...
'We had Fiona helping us with our kitchen and she couldn’t have been more helpful! Her knowledge is incredible. She was always thorough and pre-empted any questions we might have.
When we had a problem due to builder error, Plykea engineered a workaround which completely resolved the problem. Their customer service was ace. They are good people.'

“We confidently and happily turned to Plykea for this large project…”
After completing the renovation of the Mosaic Rooms, we asked architects A Small Studio how they found working with Plykea.
The project saw a two-year transformation of The Tower House in South Kensington into a fully accessible cultural space dedicated to contemporary arts from the Arab world.
Their answer:
"We confidently and happily turned to Plykea for this large project because we have collaborated with them on numerous previous commissions, all of which have been fantastic.
Plykea is responsive, professional, committed to quality, and always delivers. Joinery was a significant component of this refurbishment, and we had no doubt that Plykea would be our greatest ally in translating our design vision into a practical, buildable, and cost effective reality.
Their system allowed us to adapt bespoke solutions onto IKEA cabinetry, giving us the flexibility we needed across a very complex brief, while also ensuring long-term ease of maintenance for our client.
We genuinely enjoy working with Plykea and look forward to future collaborations. We loved working with the full team. Special thanks to Leah, Laura, Kristine, Rob, Pip and Anne."

Another area of the Mosaic Rooms renovation featuring Plykea is the ground-floor bookshop.
Fenix Rosso Jaipur plywood fronts were paired with IKEA Metod cabinets to create a warm, plum-toned environment that supports quiet browsing without competing with the main gallery.
Ash-veneered plywood sheets were also supplied for the contractor to fabricate the bookshop shelving, maintaining a cohesive material palette throughout the space.
The accompanying kitchenette features calm Formica Cygnet fronts with matching J-profile handles and a Smile Plastics worktop.
Both areas are finished with integrated IKEA Mittled lighting, adding a soft, functional glow.

We worked with architects A Small Studio on the refurb of Mosaic Rooms, transforming their London HQ into a fully accessible cultural institution dedicated to contemporary arts from the Arab world.
On the first floor, the PlayLab features IKEA Pax wardrobes transformed with Formica-faced plywood doors. Inspired by the colours of the Palestinian landscape, the vibrant multi-coloured storage with matching J-profile handles showcases the breadth of the Plykea colour palette.
Additional IKEA Pax storage in the workshop area is finished in subtle Formica Soft White with ash J-profile handles.
One of our favourite features of the project is the stepped amphitheatre entrance, where Jesmonite board games - commonly played in, or originating from, Arab cultures - are integrated into the stone steps. Games by Windsor Workshop Ltd.

Ash-veneered birch plywood is paired with Swarf Hardware red oxide handles and a yellow Formica Tenere worktop for a bold, characterful look.
An Ürtil shelf unit integrated into the island adds a custom feel, while matching ash shelves feature a recessed detail for seamless IKEA Mittled lighting. Custom filler panels around the tall units create a built-in, bespoke look that makes the whole kitchen feel tailored to the space.
