Ludwig Mies van der Rohe – Pioneering architect and designer born March 27, so a belated celebration of this Iconic designer.
Architecture is a language; when you are very good you can be a poet.
Regarded as one of the most important figures in architectural history, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe defined modernism with his iconic “less is more” philosophy.
Mies’ influence extended beyond buildings. Mentoring a young Florence Knoll, he granted her exclusive rights in 1948 to produce his furniture designs — including the Barcelona collection, the Brno Chair, and the MR series — cementing his legacy in both architecture and design.
Less truly became more.

Happy Mother’s Day to the creators, the builders, and the visionaries.
Your work inspires us, and your strength moves us.
Today we honor the women who shaped the spaces we call home — the designers, makers, visionaries, and mothers who transformed furniture into art and functionality into beauty.
From the timeless elegance of Ray Eames, who redefined modern living alongside Charles Eames,
to the groundbreaking leadership of Florence Knoll, who brought architectural clarity to interiors,
to the sculptural brilliance of Lina Bo Bardi, who infused humanity into modernism; and Cini Boeri, the Italian architect and industrial designer who designed several showrooms and furniture collections for Knoll.
These women designed more than furniture.
They designed environments for connection, comfort, and family.
Mid-century modern wasn’t just a style — it was a reimagining of home. And at its heart was the celebration of living beautifully and intentionally.
Today, we celebrate the mothers who create warmth in our spaces and the women designers whose legacy continues to inspire.

Harry Bertoia – Born March 10 1915
A metalworker ahead of his time, Bertoia blurred the lines between art, design, and music. From wearable sculptural jewelry to the iconic Diamond Chair, massive public installations, and the Sonambient sounding sculptures, his work spans delicate wire to monumental forms.
He believed art came from “the great Oneness,” needing no title to speak for itself. Today, Knoll continues his legacy, keeping Bertoia’s innovation and beauty alive — including the Asymmetric Lounge, realised decades after his first experiments.
From chairs to gongs, monotypes to fountains, Bertoia’s creations remind us: design is everywhere, and every piece tells a story.

Celebrating International Women’s Day 🤩
Today we celebrate the visionary women who have shaped Mid-Century Modern and contemporary furniture design—bringing innovation, craftsmanship, and timeless beauty into the spaces we live in.
From the sculptural elegance of Ray Eames and the pioneering vision of Florence Knoll to the architectural thinking of Lina Bo Bardi and the iconic Scandinavian work of Nanna Ditzel, women have played a powerful role in defining modern design.
Their legacy continues through collaborations with leading brands such as Fritz Hansen, Kasthall, and HAY—working with inspiring designers including Cecilie Manz, Ilse Crawford, Patricia Urquiola, and Gunilla Lagerhem Ullberg, whose work in textile and rug design has helped shape contemporary interiors through colour, material, and craftsmanship.
On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate the creativity, influence, and lasting impact of women designers—past and present—who continue to shape the world of furniture and interiors.
Here’s to the women who designed the past, shape the present, and inspire the future! ❤️

Frank Gehry was born on February 28, 1929. He is a renowned Canadian-American architect and designer, known for a unique style that is typically categorized as deconstructivism rather than Mid-Century Modernism.
Gehry created his bentwood furniture collection for Knoll in 1992. Inspired by the surprising strength of a wooden bushel basket, he sought to fully integrate material and design, creating a structurally and aesthetically light masterpiece. And so the Power Play Club, Hat Trick and the Cross Check Arm chairs were born.

Fun fact. The designer of Knoll's latest creations, Willo Perron, is a longtime collaborator of music icon Rhianna, including the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show (2023). Perron also designed the floating platforms and the "brutally present" red stage for her 2023 performance.
With the Pillo sofa, Perron translates the designer’s distinct perspective to an unexpected form- a stack of oversized pillows—that offers unforgettable comfort.
