On Thursday, Long Eaton Guild of Furniture Manufacturers joined fellow representatives from across our regionโs vibrant furniture industry to meet with Adam Thompson MP at Wade Business Centre.
The discussion focused on protecting and promoting the heritage upholstery industry of Long Eaton - an area globally recognised for its craftsmanship, skills and design excellence.
We were delighted to be joined by representatives from venue host Spring Limited, The Furniture Makers'โ Company, Erewash Borough Council, British Furniture Association, George Stewart Design, Ponsford, Covercraft Upholstery, and many others who share a passion for ensuring a strong, sustainable future for British furniture manufacturing.

Had a big sit down meeting in Long Eaton today with loads of representatives of the local furniture and upholstery industry ๐๏ธ
We had a really important discussion about challenges facing the industry. High costs, an ageing workforce, competition from China and Eastern Europeโฆ all important factors that need to be addressed and overcome ๐ฏ
First and foremost, Iโm going to seek a meeting with Peter Kyle, the Secretary of State for Business and Trade. Iโm also going to try and get him to come up here to Long Eaton, to speak face to face about this issues ๐ค
The major thing from this meeting Iโll try and do is get furniture making included in the big new industrial strategy. British furniture manufacturing is a ยฃ40 billion industry, and it absolutely should not be left out โ
As chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on the Furniture Industry, I sit down regularly with lots of MPs from different parties to talk about how we can help our local upholsterers and furniture makers ๐ ๏ธ
Iโve visited lots of these businesses since becoming an MP, but it was great to meet some new people - and properly sit down with the Long Eaton Guild to talk about their priorities as a group ๐
