Following the Scent since 1974... Riding with DragHounds is a thrilling sport which SHOULD NOT be confused with Fox Hunting/Trail Hunting.

With DragHounds, a pack of Hounds follow a Scent laid by a human rather than pursuing a live quarry. The Line is laid over a pre-determined route to take advantage of the best opportunities for seeing the hounds work as well as jumping all obstacles offered by the country crossed. Our DragHounds are descended from the Dumfriesshire Line of Hounds and have been bred for over 15 generations to follow a Drag Scent. We are are proud members of the Masters of DragHounds and BloodHounds Association (MDBA) and are NOT affiliated in any way with the British Hound Sports Association (BHSA).

Apologies for no hunting this weekend — but you’ll be pleased to hear the hounds still got out for a lovely walk on Sunday! 🐶

Elsewhere, it was a busy weekend for the team. Jenny Roberts was out popping a few hedges on the Kirtlington Fun Ride, Roger Edmunds was filming in historic dress — exciting! — and Victoria Ruffy, Holly Shortt and Andrew enjoyed a very fast-paced and fun hound exercise with the Staff College Draghounds.

Plenty going on, even without a hunting day, and we’re looking forward to seeing everyone out again soon.

Last night we hosted our second social hack of the season. A beautiful evening with great company, stunning skies and top snacks. It was so much fun there are rumours of an added date next week on the Ridgeway! Watch this space 👀

KENNEL DISPATCHES 🐶

This week the pack have been out in the grass yard every morning and out on bikes at 6am to beat the heat (still 26° at that time this am).

All hounds are looking well and although bouncing to go on exercise soon calm down by the gate on the way out. Upto a quiet hound jog with them now and out for about 45 mins as thats plenty in this heat.

The bitch pups are looking well and showing practice continues, the dog pups are little show offs and even Roger(hound) had his dancing shoes on this am.

Next stop Puppy Show on the 5th 🏆
