For Banana Paper, working with natural materials has changed the way they understand their relationship with nature. Their practice is rooted in allowing materials to retain their own character, rather than making them entirely conform to human needs. It means learning to observe, adapt, and let the material express itself.
For Where We Once Gathered, they bring this perspective into the installation through two of their papers, which become panels placed amongst the trees.

In this conversation, I Gede Indrayatna from Tarum reflects on how natural dyes offer another way of making. One that draws from local plants, traditional weaving, and generations of knowledge. Rather than looking to the past with nostalgia, Tarum demonstrates how these practices continue to evolve through a contemporary perspective.
Perhaps the future is not about inventing new materials, but learning how to listen to the ones that have always been around us.
