Once, a student asked me,
“Ms, what is your hobby?”
And suddenly, I froze.
What is my hobby?
I couldn’t answer right away.
Not because I didn’t have one,
but because I suddenly realized…
I couldn’t remember the last time I did something simply because I enjoyed it.
For so long, life has been nothing but
Wake up.
Work.
Eat.
Sleep.
Repeat.
“Ms? What do you like?”
His voice brought me back.
“Sleep…”
“Sleep?”
“Yes. Sleep. I rarely have time for a proper nap. You know… the deep kind.”
He smiled.
“Okay, then. I’ll consider taking a nap your hobby.”
I just nodded and smiled.
Then another student asked,
“Ms, what is your favourite activity?”
I paused again.
“Hmm… it’s been a long time, but… I think I like swimming.”
“Nice!”
And somehow, those innocent questions stayed with me.
They were reminding me of something I had forgotten:
Time out!
Just like our theme this month.
Sometimes, we get so busy surviving our routines
that we forget to live between them.
We all need a little time out.
To pause.
To breathe.
To rest.
To laugh.
To return to the things that make us feel like ourselves again.
Because resting is not wasting time.
Sometimes, taking a break is how we find ourselves again.
And perhaps…
it’s time for me to remember
what makes me happy, too.
