Mencari sebuah masjid.

Aku diberitahu tentang sebuah masjid
yang tiang‐tiangnya pepohonan di hutan
fondasinya batu karang dan pualam pilihan
atapnya menjulang tempat tersangkutnya awan
dan kubahnya tembus pandang, berkilauan
digosok topan kutub utara dan selatan

Aku rindu dan mengembara mencarinya

Aku diberitahu tentang masjid yang menara‐menaranya
menyentuh lapisan ozon
dan menyeru azan tak habis‐habisnya
membuat lingkaran mengikat pinggang dunia
kemudian nadanya yang lepas‐lepas
disulam malaikat menjadi renda‐renda benang emas
yang memperindah ratusan juta sajadah
di setiap rumah tempatnya singgah

Aku rindu dan mengembara mencarinya

Aku diberitahu tentang masjid yang beranda dan ruang dalamnya
tempat orang‐orang bersila bersama
dan bermusyawarah tentang dunia dengan hati terbuka
dan pendapat bisa berlainan namun tanpa pertikaian
dan kalau pun ada pertikaian bisalah itu diuraikan
dalam simpul persaudaraan yang sejati
dalam hangat sajadah yang itu juga
terbentang di sebuah masjid yang mana

Tumpas aku dalam rindu
Mengembara mencarinya
Di manakah dia gerangan letaknya?

Pada suatu hari aku mengikuti matahari
ketika di puncak tergelincir dia sempat
lewat seperempat kuadran turun ke barat
dan terdengar merdunya azan di pegunungan
dan aku pun melayangkan pandangan
mencari masjid itu ke kiri dan ke kanan
ketika seorang tak kukenal membawa sebuah gulungan
dia berkata :

“Inilah dia masjid yang dalam pencarian tuan”

dia menunjuk ke tanah ladang itu
dan di atas lahan pertanian dia bentangkan
secarik tikar pandan
kemudian dituntunnya aku ke sebuah pancuran
airnya bening dan dingin mengalir beraturan
tanpa kata dia berwudhu duluan
aku pun di bawah air itu menampungkan tangan
ketika kuusap mukaku, kali ketiga secara perlahan
hangat air terasa, bukan dingin kiranya
demikianlah air pancuran
bercampur dengan air mataku
yang bercucuran.

2023, Jimbaran Bay Resort and Housing Villas Development

The history of development in Bali , maybe span across 100 years, in 1931 world colonial expo in Paris, introducing the Dutch indies pavilion that showed replica of Bali’s candi bentar and recreation of Balinese courtyard, designed by PAJ Moojen, same person who designed Kunstring in Menteng, Jakarta.

Up to Tandjung Sari hotel, residence turned to hotel, private home of a businessman Wija Woworuntu, who brought geoffrey bawa, to Sanur beach.
And of course the first “high rise” hotel, The bali beach, Sanur, completed in 1966 that was initiated by President Soekarno.

Till today, megadevelopment and sprawling of resorts, hotels, villas, homestays etc are an integral part of Everyday Lives in Bali.
Finding the balances, of tourism, enviromental sustainability and for the benefit of peoples of Bali is as and more important as designing itself.

The proposal sets in coast of jimbaran, comprising of residential in the flat surface of lands, optimizing orientation with carefull siteplanning. While on the steeper side and at the deepest site, alocated zone for beachfront view villas and stacked hotel rooms.

It didnt went thru, however it was great exercise on history, testing typologies and knowing when to stop.

When we are faced between designing from scratch, but we chose otherwise. we see bigger and better opportunities in transforming it, act beyond sustainability by reducing carbon waste

So here it is. Invicible beams on voids, extending slabs, rerouting services, and seamless connection to the cities with new public spaces.

Situated in a prime location within inner city, the development was to optimize and adapting new functions to the 7 existing building, formally have not been categorized as heritage buildings, we committed to keep the legacy intact.

Our presentation is to propose what type of program we need to propose, from we have learned that, there were too many, Buildings that carrying burden of “cultural center, creative center, community design center” etc. were never fulfilled their true potential.

The approach of “COMMERCIALLY CIVIC” altogether with HERITAGE will provide more feasible and sustainable proposal in increasing it lifespan and adaptive to future needs. Embedded to its city contexts.

Extending legacy. Continuing future

Perpustakaan pusat UGM-Phase 1 ,
inbetween Romo mangunwijaya and alvar aalto. Using white, indirect lighting and warm wood panel, in reference to the harald herlin learning center. Contrasting with the heaviness of the precast panel from the exterior.

The extension itself will be subtly added and treated as a “linear void” from both of the existing volumetric masses.
