THE BAORI CHAIR
Ash wood and brass with polished finish 18” x 18”x H in Stepwells, called baoris, are wells, cisterns, or ponds with long corridors of steps descending to water level crucial to the development ot western india, in the 7th to 19th centuries. They ensured water availability during droughts and held social, cultural, and religious importance. These sturdy structures withstood earthquakes and provided fresh water fitered through the earth, especially vital in monsoon-dependent regions. The chair’s wooden back and arch profile are inspired by the stone archway exit of Chand Baori. The inverted baori steps symbolize India’s resurgence.
