A visit to juku and juku, two historic post towns along the , the route that connected Tokyo and Kyoto centuries ago.
Walking through these towns feels like stepping back in time.
I came across so many from another era. No designer’s name attached, yet every detail feels thoughtfully refined through generations of use.
A kind of design shaped not by individual authorship, but by time, experience, and necessity.
The beauty of utility.
As a designer, I’m drawn to objects that don’t try to make a statement. Their forms are quiet, their details understated, and their beauty lies in how naturally they serve their purpose.
Design that doesn’t demand attention, but rewards it.
