Natural stone is having a moment.
The reasons are multiple.
Sustainability is one: natural stone is a material with a genuinely long service life, and full recyclability at end of life.
Aesthetics is another: the demand for the real thing — with its tactile quality, its irreproducibility — has grown rather.
The technology has expanded what stone can do: thinner slabs, larger formats, engineered composites that combine natural stone with lightweight backing systems, that extend durability and reduce maintenance.
The result is a material that is appearing in contexts where it would previously have been considered impractical: large-format façade cladding on high-rise buildings, ultra-thin interior surfaces in hospitality and retail environments, kitchen and bathroom applications with increasingly complex geometries, outdoor architectural elements exposed to weather and thermal cycling.
Each of these new applications brings new fastening challenges.
Thinner slabs mean less material available for anchoring.
Larger formats mean greater weight and greater sensitivity to differential movement.
More complex geometries mean more constrained installation conditions.
The fastening system is not the last decision.
We will be exploring all of this at Marmomac in Verona, the global hub where the stone
industry meets design, architecture, and engineering.

The Skyscraper Day is about height, ambition, and the human capacity to build upward against gravity. All of that deserves to be celebrated. But behind every iconic skyline, behind every curtain wall and structural steel frame, behind every façade panel and interior fit-out, there is an engineering discipline that rarely gets mentioned: the fastening systems that make it all possible.
A modern high-rise is one of the most demanding environments for fastening technology.
The wind loads acting on a tall structure are not static — they are dynamic, cyclical, and in some cases approach the intensity of seismic events.
The thermal expansion and contraction of a steel frame across seasons creates continuous movement at every joint.
The façade materials — glass, aluminium, composite panels, stone cladding — each have different mechanical behaviour and require fastening solutions specifically engineered for their properties and for the loads they will carry over a design life measured in decades.
And then there is the construction process itself.
Modern skyscrapers are increasingly built using prefabricated and modular systems structural elements, façade cassettes, interior fit-out components — manufactured off-site and assembled at height, at speed, with tolerances that leave no margin for error.
In this context, the fastening system is not a detail resolved at the end of the design process.
It is a structural and logistical variable that influences how the building goes together, how long it takes, and how reliably it performs over time.
Height is what everyone sees. What holds it up is what makes it possible.

Natural stone is one of the oldest building materials in human history. It is also one of the most technically demanding when it comes to fastening. Marble, granite, limestone, travertine: these materials have defined architecture for millennia.
They are chosen for their beauty, their permanence, and their ability to age with dignity.
But working with natural stone in contemporary architectural and interior design projects means confronting a set of challenges that most fastening approaches were never designed to handle.
Stone is brittle. It does not tolerate stress concentrations the way metal or composite materials do.
A fastening solution that distributes load unevenly, or that requires aggressive
mechanical processing of the surface, can crack a slab that cost more per square metre than the structural elements supporting it. And the consequences of a failed fixing in a stone application - a countertop, a façade panel, a sanitary element, a cladding surface — are not just structural. They are aesthetic, commercial, and in some cases, safety-critical.
The geometry of stone applications adds further complexity. Slabs are often thin relative to their surface area. Thicknesses vary within the same piece. The material is heterogeneous its internal structure differs from point to point in ways that affect how it responds to drilling, pressing, or anchoring. And the aesthetic requirements are absolute: the fixing must be invisible, or the entire investment in the material is compromised.
These are problems that require solutions engineered specifically for the material: its mechanical behaviour, its fragility, its aesthetic constraints, and its installation context.

Marble, granite, limestone. Among the most beautiful materials in architecture and design and among the most demanding when it comes to fastening.
Stone is heavy, brittle, and unforgiving.
A fastening solution that works perfectly on metal or composite may crack a marble slab, compromise a granite surface, or leave a visible mark on a material that cost more per square metre than most structural components.
Getting it right requires understanding the material — its weight distribution, its response to drilling, its sensitivity to stress concentrations — and choosing a fastening system that is engineered for it, not adapted from something else.

Design is not just about what you see. It is about what holds it together.
In interior design and architecture, the fastening system is one of the most consequential decisions in the entire project — and one of the least visible.
A connection that fails is not just a structural problem: it is an aesthetic one, a safety one, and often an expensive one to fix after the fact.
Good fastening design is not only about strength. It is about usability — ease of installation, ease of maintenance, ease of replacement when needed. It is about sustainability --materials that can be recycled, systems that allow disassembly without destroying the substrate.
And it is about integration: fastening solutions that disappear into the surface,
contributing to the finished environment rather than interrupting it.
In construction, a carefully designed fastening system ensures structural stability without compromising the aesthetic language of the building. In interior design, it allows stone, glass, composite panels and solid surfaces to be connected with zero visible hardware and maximum long-term reliability.
