At JFA Architects, we believe the best homes are those that feel like an extension of the Mauritian landscape. We want to share a few things to keep in mind when designing:

Always think about cross-ventilation to cool the interior passively.

Create a seamless indoor-outdoor flow. Contemporary tropical living is all about dissolving the barrier between the inside and the outside.

Prioritize materials with high thermal mass (stone, concrete…) which naturally absorb heat during the day and release it as temperatures drop.

Pergolas, overhangs or brise-soleil are a must if you want large windows.

Designing with the sun path and wind patterns in mind reduces energy consumption, essential during the intense Mauritian summer.

And… we're back! Our doors are open, our desks are cleared, and we're recharged and ready for an exciting New Year of design. We are looking forward to the creative challenges ahead in 2026.

As the year draws to a close, we reflect on the projects we worked on. From sketches to finished forms, each one of them has been a rewarding journey. We are grateful for the progress achieved and look forward to building new possibilities in the year ahead.

We are nearing completion on the façade rebuild for Aptis' office building. While we're keeping the final reveal under wraps for now, we wanted to share a glimpse of the process.
