Today is Guru Pournima (The night of the Teacher). The word Guru comes from the Sanskrit aksharas Gu and Ru. Gu is one who blocks and Ru is ignorance. Therefore, one who blocks ignorance is considered a guru. The most famous Gurus of Hinduism are Lord Shiva (Also known as Adi Guru or First Guru), Gita-Krishna, Dakshinamoorthy and Hayagriva.
