As the IFLA Global Studio Program 2025 officially concludes, here’s the collective achievements of the Bulacan State University - Bachelor of Landscape Architecture on the international stage. Among 28 participating universities worldwide, Bulacan State University placed 4th overall (Honorable Mention) with a final score of 65.5. This milestone reflects the dedication, teamwork, and perseverance of our students, mentors, and the entire BulSU Landscape Architecture community.

The first IFLA World Student Charrette 2025 held at École de Design Nantes Atlantique in Nantes, France from September 5-9, 2025. In this intensive workshop, the group of Angelo Mañego achieved 2nd Place for the project “Living Compass: A Landscape that Guides Through Temporality and Movement.”

Another milestone followed during the IFLA Global Studio Program UCEN-UNAM Charrette 2025 in Santiago, Chile, held from October 22-29, 2025. The group of Asia Micka Ella Mangalindan and Angelo Mañego, together with Jonaflor Balbiran, was awarded 1st Place for their project “Almagro: Weaving the Spirit of Newen.”

The program continued with the IFLA Global Studio Program Mumbai Charrette 2025, hosted at the Vivekanand Education Society College of Architecture in Mumbai, India, from November 8-12, 2025. During this charrette, the group of Asia Micka Ella Mangalindan earned 1st Place for the project “Reviving the Site’s Legacy: Mumbai Port Trust Godowns and Defunct Railway Corridor.”

The final leg of the Global Studio journey was held at Huazhong Agricultural University (HZAU) in Wuhan, China, from January 12-15, 2026, bringing together participating universities once again to conclude the program and recognize the overall results.

These accomplishments would not have been possible without the invaluable mentorship of L.Arch. EnP. Angelo Paulo Mogul, whose steady guidance and dedication helped the students navigate every stage of this journey. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the faculty members of the BulSU Landscape Architecture program, whose constant support, encouragement, and belief in their students quietly nurtured the growth that made these milestones possible.

Out of nearly 700 entries from across the country, two projects from the Bulacan State University College of Architecture and Fine Arts (BulSU CAFA) have been named nominees in the prestigious ArchiNEXT 2026 competition.
This year’s theme, "LIPARAN: Crafting Gateways That Connect Cultures," challenged students to design architectural landmarks that bridge cultural gaps.
The Nominated Projects are:
"𝗧𝗨𝗞𝗟𝗔𝗕" (Entry No. 198): Developed by Julius Hipolito, Jhylian Alexis Tuason, and Don Artemio Tolentino. Their design focuses on transforming the Tuguegarao Airport into a climate-adaptive cultural landmark using biomimicry.
"𝗦𝗜𝗘𝗥𝗥𝗔 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗬𝗔" (Entry No. 564): Designed by Dave Dionisio, this project emphasizes architecture's role in honoring and preserving the Philippines' indigenous heritage.
The finalists are now competing for the "Most Popular Award" as part of the finalist, and they need your votes to win!

𝗣𝗮𝗟𝗔𝘁𝗮𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 has reached its final day, marking the end of the two-day academic engagement on collaboration, innovation, and professionalism in the fusion of the intellectual minds of students, professionals, government representatives, and international participants at the 𝗘-𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘀, 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻, on 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟮𝟬.

The day’s activities moved forward with the 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽, where the seven groups representing partner barangays with their respective local government units came up with their proposals on community-based planning.

Followed by the short speech of 𝗛𝗼𝗻. 𝗝𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗳𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦. 𝗙𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿-𝗥𝗲𝘆𝗲𝘀 (𝗥𝗲𝘁.), Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights, highlighting the importance of food security in land use planning and sustainable development with the discussion of “𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆.”

The afternoon continued with the CPD Seminar Session. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗜𝗻𝗴. 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻 𝗙𝗲𝘁𝘇𝗲𝗿, IMLA Programme Course Director and Coordinator, Faculty of Environment, Design, Therapy and from HfWU Nürtingen-Geislingen, highlighted the need for systemic thinking in the pursuit of sustainability goals with the topic of “𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲𝘀.”

This was followed by 𝗔𝗿. 𝗘𝗻. 𝗣. 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗥𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮-𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻, Head of the City Planning, Development, and Sustainability Office of the City of Baguio, who discussed “𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗘𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽” emphasizing the role of governance and policy integration in the creation of disaster-resilient communities. The session concluded with a roundtable discussion that encouraged dialogue, reflection, and knowledge exchange among participants.

The event concluded with the GALA Night, celebrating shared learning and meaningful partnerships. CAFA Dean 𝗗𝗿. 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘀 𝗟. 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼, 𝗨𝗔𝗣 reiterates the university’s commitment to supporting academic initiatives that strengthen professional growth and development. 𝗟. 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗞𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗮𝗻, BulSU alumnus and former CLAS-BSU Vice-Chairperson, looked back on the growth and legacy of PaLAtak within the university over the past decade. Closing remarks were delivered by 𝗟. 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵., 𝗘𝗻.𝗣. 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗼 𝗣𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗼 𝗠𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗹, CLAS-BSU Adviser and BLA Program Chair followed by the appreciation ceremony honoring 𝗟. 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵. 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗮𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗶𝗼 for his mentorship and invaluable contributions to the Landscape Architecture Program of Bulacan State University.

Day 2 marked not just the conclusion of PaLAtak 2026, but the celebration of shared knowledge, strengthened partnerships, and a collective commitment to shaping resilient and sustainable landscapes for the future.

𝗣𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗔𝗞 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 | 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟭

The first day of 𝗣𝗮𝗟𝗔𝘁𝗮𝗸 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲, marking the 𝟭𝟬𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 of this landmark event, successfully brought together students, professionals, government, and university officials at the 𝗘-𝗟𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗹𝗼𝘀, 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗻, on 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗙𝗲𝗯𝗿𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝟭𝟵.

This began with registration and preparations led by our dedicated CLAS officers and committees, followed by the Opening Ceremonies. Inspiring messages from 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗿. 𝗧𝗲𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗖. 𝗦𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀, 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗗𝗿. 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗼 𝗠. 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮, 𝗖𝗔𝗙𝗔 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗿. 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘀 𝗟. 𝗘𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗼, 𝗨𝗔𝗣, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗟𝗔𝗦-𝗕𝗦𝗨 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗿𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝘀. 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗮 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻 reminded participants of the vision, creativity, and responsibility that come with being future landscape architects.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony officially opened the exhibits, symbolizing the start of dialogue, innovation, and shared vision. Participants then explored the booth and exhibit tour, showcasing the hard work and creativity of the students from the Bachelor of Landscape Architecture program at Bulacan State University.

In the afternoon, the CPD Seminar Session gathered participants for expert-led discussions on pressing issues in landscape architecture. 𝗗𝗿. 𝗔𝗸𝗵𝗺𝗮𝗱 𝗔𝗿𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝗱𝗶, Head of the Department of Landscape Architecture at Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University in Indonesia, delivered a talk on “𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁," highlighting the role of gardens and edible landscapes in supporting communities.

Following this, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗞𝗼 𝗦𝘆𝗼𝗸𝗮𝗻, Assistant Professor and Graduate School of Horticulture from Chiba University, Japan, presented “𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀," sharing Japanese case studies that demonstrate how ecological and landscape strategies enhance long-term community resilience.

The day concluded with a roundtable discussion, giving participants a chance to interact with the speakers, exchanging insights on how landscape architecture can respond to real environmental challenges, and with the Clash of CLAS transdisciplinary workshop.

Day 1 of PaLAtak 2026 was more than a series of events, it was a gathering of ideas, leadership, and purpose, celebrating a decade of PaLAtak while setting the tone for a meaningful two-day experience.

𝗟𝗔𝗸𝗮𝗱 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲: 𝗔 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀

LAkad - Landscape Architecture: Knowledge Across Disciplines was successfully held at Room 316, Federizo Hall, Bulacan State University, bringing together Bachelor of Landscape Architecture students from IPB University and Bulacan State University (BulSU) for a meaningful face-to-face international academic collaboration.

From the Campus Walk to the Collaborative Design Esquisse, presentations, and workshop sessions, participants engaged in immersive site-based learning and interdisciplinary exploration. IPB students were grouped and toured the BulSU campus, identifying unique features that could be compared, analyzed, and potentially adapted to their own university context.

With insightful activity and discussions led by Dr. Ing. Ellen Fetzer and Dr. Akhmad Arifin Hadi, students gained useful perspectives on comparative analysis, critical observation, and collaborative design thinking.

This successful program was made possible through the dedication and initiative of Circle of Landscape Architecture Students (CLAS–BSU), who facilitated this expanding exchange.

As a transitional engagement prior to PaLAtak 2026, LAkad strengthened international connections, peer learning, and the shared commitment to advancing landscape architecture education.
