"Diwa ng Kabayanihan, Lakas ng Sambayanan", isinasabuhay o hanggang salita na lamang ba?

Nagkaroon ng paggunita ng Araw ng mga Bayani sa Libingan ng mga Bayani nitong Aug 31, 2026 sa pangunguna ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.. Nasabi ng ating pangulo na patuloy natin gunitain at alalahanin ang mga bayani ng nakaraan sa pamamagitan ng pagpapatuloy sa pagseserbisyo at pagsasabuhay ng kanilang pagmamahal sa ating bayan. Patuloy natin ginugunita ang mga bayani na nagsakripisyo para sa bayan natin noong unang panahon pero paano naman ang mga makabagong bayani ng kasalukuyan?

Marami pa ring manggagawang Pilipino ang araw-araw na kumakayod nang higit sa sapat, ngunit patuloy na pinagkakaitan ng sahod at benepisyong sapat upang mamuhay nang marangal. Sa panahon ng patuloy na pagtaas ng presyo ng pagkain, pamasahe, renta, at iba pang pangunahing pangangailangan, kahit maliit na dagdag sa kanilang kita ay kinakailangan pang ipaglaban.

Sa NCR, ang ₱85 na dagdag-sahod sa ilalim ng Wage Order No. 27 ay naharap pa sa pagsuspinde matapos itong pigilan ng Pasig Regional Trial Court—isang desisyong inapela ng Department of Labor and Employment hanggang sa Korte Suprema. Sa halagang para sa ilan ay tila maliit lamang, nakasalalay para sa maraming manggagawa ang dagdag na pagkain sa hapag, pamasahe pauwi, gamot, matrikula, at iba pang pang-araw-araw na pangangailangan ng kanilang pamilya.

Kung sila ang tinatawag nating mga “bagong bayani,” bakit kailangan pa nilang ipaglaban ang karapatang mabuhay nang disente?

Bilang mga kabataan, gamitin natin ang ating kaalaman, tinig, at social media upang magmulat at makiisa. Kaisa ang KAPWA sa UPLB sa paggunita ng mga bayaning lumaban para sa kalayaan noon, at sa mga makabagong bayaning patuloy na lumalaban ngayon.

Damhin ang tunay na diwa ng kabayanihan. Ipakita ang tunay na lakas ng sambayanang Pilipino!

Mariing kinokondena ng KAPWA sa UPLB ang paglalagay sa panganib ng mga mamamahayag. Sa ilalim ng Campus Journalism Act of 1991, dapat itaguyod at protektahan ang kalayaan ng pamamahayag kahit sa antas ng campus. Ayon sa 2025 report ng Center for Media Freedom and Responsibility, 184 media attacks ang naitala mula Hulyo 1, 2022 hanggang Abril 30, 2025—kabilang ang 48 kaso ng red-tagging at 78 na kinasasangkutan ng state actors.

Hindi salita lamang ang red-tagging, online targeting, at harassment. Lumilikha ang mga ito ng takot, nagtutulak sa self-censorship, at inilalayo ang publiko sa impormasyong kailangan upang magtanong at maningil ng pananagutan.

Ngayong National Press Freedom Day—ating panawagan na patuloy na tumindig laban sa panunupil at pagpapa tahimik sa ating mga mamamahayag. Itigil ang red-tagging, pagbabanta, at harassment; imbestigahan ang mga banta; panagutin ang mga nang-aabuso; at wakasan ang impunidad. Huwag tayong manahimik. Ang press freedom ay hindi pabor na maaaring bawiin ng nasa kapangyarihan—karapatan ito ng lahat.

Ngayong araw, nakikiisa ang Kapatirang Pitong Lawa sa UP Los Baños sa pandaigdigang panawagan para sa pangangalaga ng mga lawa at ng mga kabuhayang nakasalalay sa mga ito.

Sa San Pablo, Laguna, ang Sampaloc, Yambo, Pandin, Calibato, Palakpakin, Bunot, at Mohicap ay hindi lamang tanawin. Nagbibigay ang mga ito ng pagkain, kabuhayan, turismo, at tubig sa mga komunidad.

Sa tala ng lungsod noong 2013, may 408 rehistradong fish-cage farmers/operators sa Pitong Lawa, habang mahigit 1.3 milyong kilo ng isda ang naitala sa Sampaloc lamang.

Sa World Lake Day, alagaan natin ang Pitong Lawa dahil ang pagprotekta sa lawa ay pagprotekta sa buhay at kabuhayan ng San Pablo.
