KL always brings the best new acquaintances, making the list of my awesome friends in this city even longer.
This morning I met Tinisha and Milan, the owners of the home decor start up, Dhyanaa. They import heritage patterned home textiles from India. These gorgeous mandalas are screen printed on top quality hand woven cotton, using all the colours of the rainbow. If you want a bohemian yet traditional touch to your home, you can use these as bed covers, wall tapestry - the limit is your imagination.
It was not easy to choose but I’m in love with my new blue piece.
Aren’t they beautiful? Who wants one??

Kuala Lumpurban mindíg fantasztikus új embereket sodor utamba a sors, növelve ezzel a városban levő barátaim már amúgy is hosszú sorát.
Ma reggel Tinishával és Milannal találkoztam, a Dhyanaa alapítóival. A pár tradicionális mintákkal nyomott lakástextileket importál Indiából. A sokszínű mandalákat szitanyomással viszik fel a kiváló minőségű, kézi szövésű pamutra. Az ágyra dobva, vagy épp falra függesztve egzotikus - bohém hangulatot teremtenek bármilyen otthonban. Nem volt könnyű választani, de imádom az én kék mandalámat.

Izgalmas ez a szombat délelőtt!

A few labels, that uncover a universal truth about those who make things with their hands: they get up, go to work and create every day with dedication and passion to their craft. They honour century’s old skills and traditions. They breathe life into what they make - giving it everyday practical function and timeless beauty that outlives the craze of trends and hypes.

Jotham, a Singapore based photographer captured some of such artisans in Japan. I came across his work at Supermama, a boutique shop with exquisite limited edition Japanese artisan products. The pictures are a tribute to the creators reality. They show that making stuff doesn’t happen in an ivory tower. Creation of anything is laboursome - you can be a writer, a glass blower, a textile printer, a chef and you will know this: your “workshop" is messy, you have ink on your clothes, stains on your apron, burn marks on your hands, smudges on your face, scars - sometimes on your ego as well, dust, sweat, broken pieces, frustration.

And this is why handmade products have a higher value that mass produced stuff. This is why they probably last longer and serve their purpose better.

egy hete ilyenkor a Fictive Fingers stúdiójában jártam. a testvér alkotópár kézzel készült különlegességei kis szériában készült munkák. ez az "ungu" fantázianevű kreációjukhoz használt stencil. a mintát kézi szitanyomással viszik fel a textilfelületre.
a következő év egyik fókuszpontja lesz a textil - izgalmas újdonságok hamarosan!
