Here are some of the best areas to experience the festival, explore local culture, and enjoy delicious vegetarian food.

1. Jui Tui Shrine & Ranong Road
One of the main festival areas in Phuket Old Town. You’ll find colorful decorations, traditional ceremonies, vegetarian street food, and plenty of local atmosphere.

2. Bang Neow Shrine
A historic Chinese shrine and another important festival location. During the festival, you can experience traditional ceremonies and vegetarian food offerings.

3. Phuket Old Town
Take a walk through the beautiful Sino-Portuguese streets, visit local shrines, take photos, and stop for vegetarian food along the way.

What can you eat?
Look for the yellow vegetarian flags (เจ). You’ll find vegetarian versions of Thai and Chinese dishes, noodles, rice dishes, snacks, dumplings, fried food, and desserts.

The story goes back to 1825 in Kathu, a tin-mining town. A fever spread, a Chinese opera troupe fell ill, and they stopped eating meat to pray to the Nine Emperor Gods. They recovered, and the town started doing it too.

201 years later, the Phuket Vegetarian Festival runs Oct 10–18, 2026. Wear white, look for the yellow flags, and bring earplugs for the firecrackers.
