Like Ogres, bench tops have many layers, but one that should never be left out is for temporarily stowing hand tools. Adding 1/2” thick strips to create a series of 1”, 2”, and 5” spaces creates simple slots for common hand tools that keeps them within reach and protects them from accidental damage. Trust us, your chisel edges and saw teeth will appreciate it.

Getting creative with the EKASAND “Vacuum Series 2 Workbench” from Uneeda . It’s designed to mount on their dust extractors, but we decided to go off script and add it to our Chimera Work Table. With a simple hinge design we can swing it out of the way to allow for longer rough stock on the table. And by adding a shelf underneath, we can store our vacuum pump from VacuPress®

Test chairs are an important part of the design process, which is why every chair project starts from a rough prototype out of pine or poplar. Our goal is to always produce heirloom quality furniture, but at the end of the day it’s meant to be used. So making sure the chair has the right dimensions and a comfortable“sit” is arguably more important than the aesthetic details. Plus any opportunity to use our travisher from is always welcome!

Our Chimera Table is getting closer to completion. This integrated bench top will be the work horse of the table. Made from hard maple with a cherry accent strip that actually serves as a sight line when clamping work pieces in the vise or squaring them up when directly on the top.
