There are quite a few new people following Elmswick & Oak lately, and with how much the business has evolved, I figured it was probably time to reintroduce myself.

I’m Robert, the Founder and builder behind Elmswick & Oak.

I’m a husband, a dad, an Army veteran, and someone who genuinely loves building things that are meant to last. What started as a woodworking hobby has grown into something much more focused: custom furniture with presence, thoughtful details, and pieces that feel like they belong in the home they were made for.

Most of my work today centers around dining tables, coffee tables, end tables, and the occasional one-off piece that’s too interesting to pass up. I also build custom catios throughout the midwest, which has become a pretty fun part of the business in its own right.

The two people standing next to me in this photo are a huge part of why I do any of it. My wife has been there through the late nights, sawdust, giant slabs of wood showing up at the house, and all of the ideas that usually start with, “I could build that.” And my son has grown up around projects, tools, and a dad who is almost always working on something.

Elmswick & Oak is based here in Ames, Iowa, and my goal is pretty simple, build furniture that’s well made and feels right in the home.

So if you’re new here, welcome. If you’ve been following for a while, thank you.

And if you’ve got an idea for something you’d love to have built, I’m always happy to hear it.

We don’t normally do this type of build, especially under the watchful eyes of a discerning teenager, but it turned into a whole vibe.
