So, I didn't intentionally plan to recreate The Tardis from Doctor Who, but I am pleased with the way that this piece turned out. Though technically a credenza, it is labeled as a buffet as part of Mount Airy Furniture's Contessa Collection.

I painted the entire exterior and the interior drawer fronts in Navy milk paint by Rustoleum and then sealed the finish with a matte furniture wax. The hardware is original but I stripped the lacquer and removed the tarnish to reveal a stunning brushed brass finish.

As a vintage high end furniture piece, it features solid hardwood construction with dovetail joints and hidden recessed hinges with latching cabinet door stays. All drawer glides have been waxed and work effortlessly. This piece would work well in either a traditional setting or as an accent piece in a mid-century modern design. It's also multifunctional storage that could be used as a bedroom dresser or media console for television or as a buffet in a dining room. Lots of storage and lots of options for this statement piece.

I’ve always been a fan of steamer trunks. My grandmother had one that I particularly loved when I was a small child, and I think the nostalgia for them carried through into adulthood for me. Redoing this vintage steamer trunk from the 1920’s brought back a lot of fond memories of my childhood spent visiting with my grandmother and listening to all the things she had to say.

For the drawers, I chose a vintage French blue damask with gold appliqué that would have been appropriate to the period. I finished the drawers with double solid brass heavyweight Chippendale pulls in ascending sizes relative to drawer height.

For the exterior and interior vulcanized leather, I used a custom mixed color of my own creation that reminds me of navy in the fog, so I call it navy fog. I then used furniture wax to seal and protect the finish while still maintaining the matte look appropriate to the style of the trunk.

I chose to leave some tarnish and wear marks on the black ticking weatherguards and the outer fixtures in order to maintain authenticity. Overall I’m very pleased with the end result and I look forward to sending it home with someone who will appreciate it just as much if not more than I do.

This Victorian era writing desk illustrates my love of purposeful furniture. At only 32 inches wide, it is significantly narrower than more modern desks. With its slanted top, its purpose is clear. It is very comfortable to write letters (or make drawings or blueprints). The top back area was designed to hold your quill and inkwell, although it can serve the purpose of a monitor stand nowadays. The single drawer held your stationary both monogrammed and blank based on your needs at the time.

I love the finished back of the piece, which makes it a lot more versatile in that it doesn’t have to face a blank wall, which I have always found to be a rather terrible view for placing a desk.

There are all these features, and it’s gorgeous. I painted and distressed the edges and pulled off the paint from the drawer front and top surfaces to give it some character. It really was a lot of work to make this old desk look old. But it was worth it. It’s listed for sale in marketplace. Let me know if you have any questions about this piece or any of the others in the Apothecary Collection.

Locally sourced 100 percent cotton sheets. I sleep better in fabric that breathes, which means I eliminate anything over 600 thread count. Egyptian cotton may be soft but who cares about soft if you spend all night tossing and turning and wake up at 3am?

For this cocktail table trunk, I covered the sides and inside with a tartan plaid Scottish wool. For the top, I took it down to natural finish and layered furniture wax to bring it to a nice satin finish that’s not too glossy and not too dull. I love the way it turned out.
