Black Life Moonlight
Her smile was shiny as moon gaze-
it seemed to create its own light,
beaming at anyone who should happen to gaze at her
Her skin was dark as twilight-
filled with awe and a beauty brought past the dusk of day,
she was a moon beam… leading past the planets
Her laugh echoed the owls call-
finding night gratified by the light in her every moment
she is the black of moonlight and its beauty.

Fractured Families
The Black family had to learn to adapt early. Family members were purposefully separated because a slave with no family ties to remember or to avenge was easier to control. When you separate a man from his wife, you make his wife struggle under your own rule. Better yet, you r**e her and maker her have and support your babies revictimizing her. This victimization continued with denial of the half-white children, who now were also slaves to their own illegitimate fathers.
In many ways “White America” never gave the Black family a chance from the beginning.
Often, looking back in a Black family tree comes with looking back into a tree that ancestors have hung from. The truth often isn’t a pretty picture, but it is an honest one.

Serenading Southern Summers
Another summer of southern charm has come and gone,
the porch swing will see less laughter
sunflowers will dive back to their seasonal hiding places in the Georgia clay
Summer has left its sticky sweet linger across the valleys and mountain tops,
The sounds of Earth shall be different
rainbows that sky dived in front of cotton colored clouds take their leave
the air has become crisp and a still cool wind blows across the meadows
Sunsets will cease to linger creating beautiful loved shadows on front porches,
leaves will begin to crash down to summer green grass
Time shall pass with wind and the scents of forest trees at its back
summer with its sweet serenade has left longing forever-
deep entwined in the hearts of children,
slowly evaporating like low southern streams in the minds of older men.
