ELF Tip - Expos, conferences and networking events are not for collecting business cards to throw into your database. It is a time to establish and build relationships that are interested in hearing from you and learning more about you. If you establish contests or challenges for your sales team, create them based on real results, i.e. # of meetings made, # of quotes created, # of deals closed, etc.. do not do it on # of business cards collected. Far to often those business cards go into a box, briefcase or even database, and are never acted on.

ELF Tip.... Dont confuse selling with solving a problem for someone... First 2 questions to ask.... What are you working on ( or goal) and what do you need? Find their problem, issue or goal and define how you or someone you know can solve it.

ELF Tip: A sure sign of a leader is one who is confident in delegating responsibilities while engaging with a team to ensure each member has what they need, knows what is needed, and is following through on what is to be done, by when. Delegation is not dumping tasks onto someone, and not taking accountability for the end result. Delegation is a leadership muscle that needs to be worked out daily.

ELF Tip - don't sit alone at your desk, covered up in drawings, concepts and requirements. Engage an expert who can partner with you to bring your idea to life...they probably have great ideas that you are just not seeing amongst the flurry.

ELF Tip - if you are attending an expo or industry event such as GlobalShop, be sure to:
1) Define a measurable goal for yourself and your team, i.e. present offerings to 10 high value prospects, secure 3 key meetings post event with key leads, attend 2 educational forums to expand knowledge/skills, etc.....
2) Make a list of exhibitors, vendors and/or customers that you want to meet up with while at the event. Do a little research on line to see who is attending prior to hitting the floor
3) Make a list of all of the things you need to bring with you whether you are exhibiting or attending, i.e. business cards, brochures, contact list with telephone numbers, presentation (online or on paper), etc..

Preparation is key to achieve a return on investment of your time and money put into it. Be sure each team member does the same (even compile team goals and activities). Good luck!
