From tree to table. This Red Maple had to come out of yard in Ivy due to it becoming a hazard. We recovered, milled, dried and worked these 2 slabs into a dining table that now lives in the remodeled dining room where the tree once stood.

I love a full circle build.

A little reclaimed Virginia Black Walnut showing off one of wood's best tricks: chatoyance—that shimmering, cat's-eye effect that seems to move as the light changes.

Hand-turned from salvaged urban timber and finished to bring the grain to life. Perfect as a salt cellar, spice bowl, or simply something beautiful to leave on the counter.
Available from Ursa Timber.

URSA FIELD REPORT no. 04

The Bradford Pear was once considered the perfect suburban tree.

Fast growing. Attractive. Low maintenance.

Further testing was required.

Modern observations have revealed brittle limbs, invasive tendencies, and a fragrance frequently compared to things not typically associated with flowers.

Scientists now consider the species problematic.

Woodworkers remain willing to overlook these character flaws.

Current Habitat: Barboursville, Virginia.

Conservation Status: Available.

URSA FIELD REPORT no. 03

The Mulberry has spent generations quietly producing durable lumber, edible fruit, and shade.

For reasons that remain unclear, it has never hired a competent marketing department.

As a result, many people are unaware that Mulberry is among the more rot-resistant hardwoods native to North America.

This specimen appears unconcerned by that fact.

Current Habitat: Barboursville, Virginia.

Conservation Status: Available.

URSA FIELD REPORT #002

The Black Walnut is among North America's most confident tree species.

It spends its life poisoning nearby competition, hoarding sunlight, and growing valuable wood.

Scientists generally describe this behavior as allelopathy.

Normal people call it being kind of a jerk.

Walnut remains highly sought after despite these personality flaws.

Current Habitat: Barboursville, Virginia.

Conservation Status: Available.
