Gearing up for the summer season and I could not be more excited about all the coastal designs in the works! Each couple has taken their own unique spin on what coastal means to them, so no two designs will be alike.

This design for A&T was rooted in coastal blues and greens, wavy shapes, with a pop of hot pink accents mixed throughout. This complemented their backdrop of Hilton Head and the stunning florals in bold shades of coral and pink.

Wishing the happiest first anniversary (a day early) to the Genslers! This wedding kicked off last year with a bang - such a stunning design inspired by a very special couple. I’ve been excited to share this one - not only for such a fun, coastal design, but because of how special of a couple it was created for.

Hilton Head has been a special place for the Mills family, spending many summers enjoying the coast. Abby’s parents now fully live down there, making it the perfect spot for her and Tom to begin their marriage. They told me how they wanted their wedding to feel like being on vacation with all of their favorite people, so that was the inspiration throughout their design.

We kept things in a coastal palette of blues and greens with fun pops of hot pink. Wavy shapes, ticking stripes, and beach liner artwork continued the vibe of Hilton Head, transporting their guess to a coastal retreat. These two have become so dear to me and I could not be happier for them!

Still finding the words to describe just how meaningful this evening was. To be a part of this city, this community, and this design is not something I take lightly. I’ll have a blog post soon enough with a deep dive into the design, where we brought the gallery to life through culinary artistry, live performance, and intentional design.

Satin ribbon place cards for E&K - these aren’t printed, they’re hand written. My calligraphy hot foiled onto each individual strand, tied onto the menu cards and displayed at each place setting. A true labor of love that was well worth the end result.

I’ve seen some lovely new faces around here and thought it would be time for a re-introduction. I’m Emily, the artist and designer behind Of Light & Letters.

I call New England home (meaning I’m currently buried in about two feet of snow). I grew up in Connecticut but have spent all of my adult life living in Massachusetts. I just love the seasons, the character, and rich history of this place.

Creativity has always been a part of my life, but has played out in different forms over the years. Growing up I was a competitive dancer and that was my main source of creative outlet. In college I found myself in a chemistry program where I was quite literally creating - organic synthesis being my primary area of research. I found myself not enjoying time in the lab and really seeking a creative element. In 2018 I started teaching myself calligraphy, which was the catalyst to launching Of Light & Letters!

The journey hasn’t been quite linear - I started with calligraphy and explored both the product and service sides of the business. Ultimately I knew weddings were where I wanted to end up. During the crazy time that was 2020, I dedicated myself to learning the print and production side of the house. I studied how to digitize my calligraphy and got familiar with full stationery design. I launched my official website as a stationer over 5 years ago now!

My favorite thing about this work is the people. I’ve been beyond blessed with the couples, planners, and other creatives that this work has brought into my life!
