Queer, Latinx, Feminist Chocolate Makers working with organic ancestral cacao grown in what is now Mexico. Cacao is our medium.

Fortuna was born on a bicycle in the streets of Tokyo and at a long wooden table in the Danish countryside. It was born on the beaches of the Pacific Ocean and in the forests of the Rocky Mountains. Witness to our story and elder, we sit at the feet of its wisdom. Bloodied by human hands and talisman of our ceremonies, cacao is already answering our questions.

Check out these gorgeous flowers! Did you know that we also have a background in floral design? Cacao beans start as flowers growing from the trunk of the Theobroma tree, once pollinated they grow into large pods with an average of 50 beans or seeds inside.

Plants and flowers are where chocolate starts. Cacao grown in biodiversity is the heart of what we make and we believe that the very best flavors come from the intersection of thriving land and thriving people.

By opening lines of communication this way, we amplify the work of our Radical partners and share the work that we do by making chocolate. This way the impact of the money we invest is more about community building.

Next we worked deeply to identify partners to offer our a radical profit shift. We spent time considering our location, position and privilege. The process led us to land, family and gender rights.

Last year instead of taking the sage advice from our very cool media consultant friends, I wondered if there was a way to achieve my professional goals of reaching out to our community with Fortuna and giving our money to organizations we admired and with whom our investment had an impact.
