GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE… AND APPARENTLY THROW AXES PRETTY WELL TOO! 🪓
Every year, Giffin Interior holds our annual Drafting Summit, bringing our remote drafting team together at our facility for a little collaboration, team building, and some well-deserved fun!
This year's activities included axe throwing, and as it turns out, some of our family are just as good at chopping wood as they are at fabricating complex custom architectural woodwork projects! We're just hoping they don't bring their new skills back to the drafting department! 😂
While we spend most of our days focused on precision, details, and deadlines, events like these give us an opportunity to strengthen relationships, share ideas, and enjoy time together outside of our daily responsibilities.
At Giffin Interior, FAMILY is one of our core values, and bringing our team together, whether they work remotely or in our facility every day, is an important part of what makes us successful.

When Craftsmanship Meets Extreme Design! 🪵
Some millwork projects are challenging. Others push the boundaries of what can be accomplished with wood. This one takes craftsmanship to a whole new level!
At first glance, this custom wood-veneered bench and reception desk may look like a beautiful architectural feature. But take a closer look at those curves!
Creating these complex, flowing shapes requires an incredible amount of skill, patience, precision, and attention to detail. Carefully shaping, sanding, and finishing the surfaces, every step demands the expertise of our highly skilled craftsmen and women.
Wood doesn't naturally bend and flow like this. Making it look effortless is where the real craftsmanship comes in.
What makes this project even more impressive is the continuity of the wood grain as it follows the dramatic contours, creating a seamless transition between horizontal and vertical surfaces.

Three major projects. Two world-class healthcare facilities. One very busy Giffin team. 🏥🏥🎰
As we wrap up our work at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, we’re also coming off the completion of another major healthcare project at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. All while our team was executing a large hospitality project in New York.
Projects of this size and complexity don’t happen because of one department or one person. They happen because an entire team works together.
From Estimating and Sales setting the projects up for success, to Project Management, Drafting, Engineering, Purchasing, Fabrication, Finishing, Shipping, and Installation. Every department had to communicate, coordinate, solve problems, and keep moving forward.
Managing three large, complex projects simultaneously tested our capacity, our communication, and our ability to execute.
Our team delivered.

⛳ 🏌️‍♂️⛳Last week, Giffin Interior held our annual golf outing, bringing together our employees, families, vendors, and customers for a great day on the course. ⛳ 🏌️‍♂️⛳
There were plenty of laughs, great food, gifts, and, of course, more than a few golf balls that may never be seen again. Some of the golf was impressive. Some of it was… memorable for other reasons.
Regardless of what the scorecards said, it was a great opportunity to spend time together outside of work and enjoy the relationships that make events like this so much fun.

High-Profile Spaces Require Attention to Detail
The bigger the impression a space is designed to make, the more important the smallest details become.
This Pittsburgh corporate space is now complete, and the finished product is a great example of what happens when design, craftsmanship, coordination, and attention to detail all come together.
From the expansive tiered seating to the transitions, reveals, edges, finishes, and integration with the surrounding glass and metal, every detail matters. In a high-profile space like this, there really isn’t a “background” piece of millwork, everything contributes to the final experience.
At Giffin Interior, that attention to detail reflects our core value of Excellence. It means looking beyond simply fabricating what is on the approved shop drawings and focusing on how all of the pieces come together in the finished space.
A finished project like this is also a reminder that great work is a team effort. Congratulations to our Estimating, Project Management, Drafting, Engineering, Fabrication, and Installation teams for the coordination, craftsmanship, and perseverance it took to bring this space across the finish line.

From the Ashes… Giffin Interior
Twenty-six years ago, a fire nearly changed the future of Giffin Interior.
A building next to our facility caught fire while founder Gordon Giffin was attending the Irish Festival at Station Square. When he received the call that Giffin Interior was on fire, he immediately headed back.
From I-79, Gordon could see flames reaching nearly 100 feet into the air as propane tanks exploded. When he arrived, he ran down Vanadium Road, still wearing his kilt, expecting the worst.
Fortunately, firefighters confirmed that the fire was in the neighboring building. But Giffin Interior was far from out of danger.
Our employees immediately stepped in, dousing our buildings with water and doing everything they could to protect the company they helped build. Their quick thinking and determination made a difference. Without their efforts, Giffin Interior's story could have ended very differently that day.
Instead, adversity created opportunity.
Gordon was later able to purchase the neighboring property, becoming one of the important steps in growing Giffin Interior into the 85,000-square-foot operation we have today.
What could have been a devastating setback became part of our story of perseverance, family, pride, and growth.
Today, Giffin Interior is led by Gordon's son, Dustin, and we continue building on that foundation by expanding what we can offer our customers. From custom architectural woodwork to metal, glass, solid surface, and other specialty finishes, we provide a complete turnkey millwork package.
For more than four decades, Giffin Interior has learned that sometimes the biggest opportunities come from the challenges you never saw coming.
We didn't rise from the ashes, but we came pretty close. And we kept building.

A model room is about much more than seeing what the finished space will look like.

It’s where design intent meets fabrication, installation, coordination, and real-world constructability before those details are repeated throughout an entire hotel.

For a general contractor, that makes the model-room phase an important opportunity to identify challenges early, refine details, coordinate finishes and interfaces, and establish the level of quality expected for the rooms that follow.
