Timber Frame Going Up

We started our summit push up the Matterhorn at 4:30AM on Saturday morning. It was pitch black but the stars were shining. After 5-1/2 hours, we were standing on the summit celebrating. Two summits of iconic European Alps in a five day period…nailed them. 50 years old never felt so good. 😎

We made it to the highest point in Europe…Mont Blanc! We started at 5AM in the dark, hit some traffic, stopped for some blister first aid and then pushed hard. We were the second to last group to leave high camp and passed all but one group on our way to the summit…..they left almost two hours before us. Nailed it!! Next objective….Matterhorn attempt this Saturday morning. Zoom in on the last picture and you can see the Matterhorn peak under Matt’s elbow. It is so steep not much snow sticks to it. What a view!

We made it to base camp at the hut called Tete Rousse on Tuesday. Elevation 10,390’. Excellent day. Saw actual mountain goats….a whole family of them. Next push is to the summit of Mont Blanc.

I turned 50 last week and figured an epic trip to Europe with my family for the first 10 days and my climbing partner for the following 9 days was in order. We have the Summit of Mont Blanc in our sites. Highest point on the European continent at 15,766’. Today was an acclimatization trip up to 12,605’ where we played around on some glaciers. The exposure was excellent.

We are getting close to finishing this Timber Frame Home in Hillsborough. White Pine Timbers and white oak floors. Soapstone countertops and Kraftmaid cabinetry. The details have been thoroughly thought through and the end design is beautiful.
