bucketofholes on eBay 11/27/2025

I've recently been adding quite a few really good specimens from Franklin and Sterling Hill, NJ to my ebay page. It's rare that samples like these hit the market. If you have a moment to check them out, I appreciate it!

I've also created a page for buying, selling and trading of specimens from these mines... because no such space seemed to exist! As more and more old collections from these mines come to market in the next few years, I wanted to create a space where everyone can list what they're looking for, or openly offer specimens to a growing collector base as they become available. You can join this group here: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/16TBXRds8D/

Less than a day left in my current auction on and this week offers some really special things. In addition to the classic Cornwall cuprite, chinese liroconite, exceptional metasaleeite from Australia, classic blue willemite from Tsumeb, rare and sought after greenockite from New Jersey and other goodies, there are some incredibly rare specimens of larsenite, cuprocherokeeite, haywoodite, rowleyite and kayrobertsonite. Also of special note in this auction are some good things from Franklin/Sterling Hill, NJ, most importantly samples of a NEW FIND for Sterling Hill that I recently uncovered. Only four samples of a yttrium-bearing zalesiite occurring as beautiful sprays of blue hexagonal prisms were found in ONE vug, and were associated with green crystals of segnitite. Both minerals are new for the mines. If you have a moment to take a look, I really appreciate it!

Like antique minerals? Pleased to have acquired the collection of Siegfried T. Gross of Colorado Springs, CO. He, along with Edwin Over (overite), Lazard Cahn (cahnite) and others started the Colorado Springs Mineralogical Society in 1936 and immediately started a ‘round table’ led by Cahn for studying microminerals very much similar to the existing round tables led by collectors in Philadelphia, PA at the time. Micromineral collecting in the USA began as early as 1850, but this time period elicited an explosion of interest in this aspect of the hobby with the introduction of better microscopes. See Quintin Wight’s excellent book, The Complete Book of Micromounting. Siegfried built his collection by self collecting at many Colorado localities that are now long extinct, but the backbone of the collection is composed of specimens gifted to him by numerous prominent collectors of the period (1925-1940). There are samples represented in the collection from L.C. Wills, Charles Palache, Lazard Cahn, Ed Over, Arthur Montgomery (montgomeryite), Clarence Bement (bementite), W.R. Willis, J.D. Custer, W.F. Foshag (foshagite), George English (english*te), Philadelphia Academy of Science, Ward’s and many others. It’s a rare opportunity to possess a tiny piece of mineral history! The first auction of selected specimens from the collection is currently live on . Link above!
