Haven't posted in a while and so I'm happy to announce that GW is now operating in the Charlotte/Fort Mill areas.

These are a couple of barstools that have been a part of the family and need some TLC.

Quick lesson for the day

Stay away from Gorilla Glue.

This is a beautiful piece of teak furniture made in Liverpool England in the early 1900s.

All credit to the Gorilla marketing people, but I don't know that I've ever found this glue to be good in any application and I am often asked to re-repair something that has previously been glued with Gorilla glue.

To get a little more specific, Gorilla glue is a polyurethane glue that is water activated and expands even with moisture in the air. Perhaps the glue then pushes pieces glued together apart.

Polyurethane is somewhat of a new product on the planet and only been used in the last half a century. Polyurethane is really a very cheap, non-durable product in my opinion.

If you need to glue something together, Go to Harbor Freight and spend a few bucks for some cheap clamps, then use a medium viscosity super glue (super glue gel - cyanoacrylate).

Good luck. Call me if I can help.

Restoration of buffet table.

The movers destroyed this table by gouging out a quarter inch deep divot in the top. I was able to repair the divot and put a new piece of veneer on top. The color match is very nearly perfect.

Quick little lesson in sandpaper.

I use primarily three grits of sandpaper and find that I can do pretty much everything I need to do with these three grits.

The 80 grit grinds and shapes very well. The 120 grit erases the 80 grit and grinds and shapes.... Though not as well. The 220 erases the 120 and it enough for optimal smoothness.

Sand twice with each. Once with as much pressure as you can, and once with medium pressure. Sanding this way is quick and ensures no swirl marks are visible after finishing.

Pro tip from Mike Romanzi of Badger Creek Construction:

Hosing off between sandings helps the sand paper last longer.
It doesn't get as easily clogged or as hot

Fun, little repair on a Browning, double barreled shotgun stalk. The owner had a little accident that caused a small dent that stares him in the face when the gun is in it's cabinet. I have a good polymer filler that should take care of it adequately.

Quaint shelf unit to match existing furniture.

This customer wanted a computer work station next to his comfy chair. A deep drawer to fill with various charging cables on top of which will sit his laptop computer. Then slightly taller shelves for his books.
